Heading into the long bank holiday weekend like... 💤🐾

Meet Jason. Jason has absolutely no plans this weekend except to move from the couch to his food bowl, and back to the couch again. We highly recommend following his lead!

Before you completely switch off into holiday mode, just a quick reminder from all the team here at Mill Road Vets regarding our weekend hours:

📅 Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holiday Monday: Closed (Emergency Cover Only)

If you have an urgent veterinary emergency over the long weekend, please call our usual number on 021 463 2586 to be directed to our emergency on-call service.

Make sure to double-check that you have enough of your pet's routine medications to get you through to Tuesday, keep those barbecue scraps well out of reach of begging dogs, and have a wonderful, safe long weekend! ☀️🕶️

With the weather warming up (hopefully 🥲), fleas, ticks, and worms are becoming highly active. Is your pet protected? Drop us a DM or call the clinic to check if your preventative treatment is up to date!

Simple ways to help pets stay cool in warm weather:

🧊 Fresh water available at all times
🌳 Shade during outdoor time
🍦 Frozen treats or ice cubes
🏠 Keep exercise minimal during peak heat

Some pets struggle more in hot weather, especially older pets, flat-faced breeds, and overweight animals.

A little extra care goes a long way ❤️

Heatstroke in pets can happen fast.

Watch for signs like:
🐾 Heavy panting
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Vomiting or collapse

If you notice these symptoms, move your pet somewhere cool and contact your vet immediately.

Let’s keep our furry friends cool, hydrated, and happy this week ☀️

Hot weather is here!
Remember: if the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws. 🐾

✔️ Walk dogs early morning or late evening
✔️ Always carry water
✔️ Never leave pets in cars — even for a minute

Stay safe and keep tails wagging this summer 💙

The best part of our job? The cuddles, hands down. 🥰

We know it can be a little nerve-wracking for owners when their pets have to step into the back clinic rooms for treatments or checks. But we promise you, they are never short on love!

Here is the beautiful Honey getting some reassurance and chin scratches from student vet nurse Mikayla during her visit. Our goal is always to make sure every patient feels safe, secure, and pampered while they are in our care.

Thank you for trusting us with your precious pets, Midleton! 🩺✨

Making himselfs right at home... 💤✨

We always say we aim for a "Fear-Free" experience here at Mill Road Vets, but beautiful Ollie took that literally! He decided our waiting room rug was the absolute perfect spot for a little pre-appointment rest, before showing off his perfect sitting skills for some well-deserved treats.

Bringing your puppy to the vet doesn't have to be stressful. We love taking the extra time to make sure their early visits are full of positive experiences, cuddles, and plenty of rewards.

Good boy, Ollie! We can't wait to watch you grow (and grow, and grow!). 🐕❤️

April 29 is International Guide Dog Day 🐕‍🦺💛

Today at Mill Road Vets, we’re celebrating the incredible guide dogs who provide independence, confidence, and companionship to people with visual impairments. These amazing dogs are not just pets—they are highly trained partners making a life-changing difference every single day. ✨

We’re also proud to be home to Pet Eye Vet, and we regularly see guide and working dogs for specialist eye exams—helping to keep their vision sharp so they can continue their important work. 👁️🐾💙

If you ever meet a working guide dog, remember:
🐶 Do not distract them while they’re on duty
👋 Always ask the owner before interacting
💛 Respect the important job they’re doing

Thank you to all guide dogs and the people who train and care for them—you inspire us every day.

Rolling into his appointment in style 🧺😎

Meet Lucky, who came to see Lisa the ophthalmologist at Mill Road Vets—arriving in the coziest “carrier” we’ve seen yet… a washing basket! 🐾✨

Safe, snug, and looking very relaxed, Lucky took it all in his stride and made himself right at home. Who knew laundry day could be this comfy? 💙

We loved having you in, Lucky—basket and all!

Lovers 🐶🧺
