Why I Don’t Offer “Send-Away” Dog Training
(and why it’s probably not what your dog needs)
I often get asked if I’ll take a dog for a couple of weeks and train them for the owner. The short answer?
No—and here’s why.
Firstly, your dog would be removed from their home, their people, and their environment. That alone can cause stress, anxiety, or shutdown—none of which are helpful for real training progress.
Even if they settle with me, a professional trainer, they can only train for 10 minutes at a time, 3–4 times per day. That’s 30–40 minutes total in 24 hours. One hour, tops.
Yes, I could teach your dog behaviours quickly. I know the techniques. But here’s the truth:
If you’re not training with your dog… they’re not really learning.
They may listen to me, but when they return home and you give a command, your dog won’t know how to respond—because you haven’t learned how to ask.
Training isn’t just about the dog.
It’s about you and your dog learning to communicate, building trust, and creating daily habits that work in real life.
Of course, there are specialist trainers who work magic in areas like hunting or herding. But for everyday families with everyday dogs? You are the magic.
That’s why I only offer training that involves you and your dog learning together—because that’s the training that actually lasts.
