‼️‼️‼️ Up to 29 degrees today🥵

Always keep an eye out for the signs of heat stroke during warm weather.☀️ If you suspect heat stroke- Call your vet immediately!

Don't walk your pets in the heat, go early in the morning or late in the evening when it's cooler, and keep walks short! Or better yet, don't walk them in this heat.🔥

Always have fresh water and shade available for pets💧

Stating the obvious here- never leave dogs in a hot car!!🥵

When it's this hot, try standing outside with bare feet. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!🌡

And of course, regular grooming/haircuts will help dogs keep cool throughout the summer😊

🐾☀️ WHEN IS IT TOO HOT TO WALK YOUR DOG? ☀️🐾

In Ireland we might not always think of heat as dangerous, but even on what feels like a “nice day” to us, it can be far too hot for our dogs 💔

Dogs can overheat VERY quickly and hot pavements can burn their paws in seconds.

🌡️ General guide:
🐶 Under 19°C – Usually safe for most dogs
🐶 20–23°C – Be cautious, especially for flat-faced, elderly or fluffy dogs
🐶 24°C+ – Risk of heatstroke increases
🐶 27°C+ – Dangerous for many dogs

🔥 Try the 5 second rule:
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws!

💧 Best tips for hot days:
✔️ Walk early morning or late evening
✔️ Bring water everywhere
✔️ Stick to shaded areas
✔️ Never leave dogs in cars
✔️ Watch for signs of heatstroke:
Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting or collapse

Some dogs are especially vulnerable:
🐾 Puppies
🐾 Senior dogs
🐾 Flat-faced breeds
🐾 Overweight dogs
🐾 Thick-coated breeds

Sometimes the safest walk is skipping the walk altogether and replacing it with enrichment, games and cuddles indoors 🐕❤️

I wanted to make a post about what a matted coat is, how it happens and why we cannot brush it out.

Matting happens when a dogs coat is not thoroughly brushed causing it to tangle and knot up tightly and close to the skin.

The tight matting pulls on the skin with every movement your dog makes causing pain, irritation, bruising, sores and infections underneath the coat.
It can also hide lumps, wounds, parasites and affect a dogs ability to regulate their body temperature properly.

Matted coats cannot be brushed out humanely. It would be extremely painful and stressful for the dog.
We must shave the coat short because we have to safely get underneath the matting to remove it from the skin. A clippers cannot cut through matting.

Areas like behind the ears, under collars, armpits, legs, and tails mat very quickly, especially in long coated or curly coated dogs.

Regular brushing and grooming appointments are essential for your dogs comfort and welfare, not just their appearance.💙
