😺🦷 Meeko’s Dental Day! 🦷😺

Yesterday, brave patient Meeko came in for his dental procedure as tartar and gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) were picked up on routine exam. We thought we’d take you behind the scenes to show what happens when pets have dental work done. 💙

In this short video, you’ll see our team gently placing an intravenous (IV) catheter — an important step that allows us to safely give fluids and medications throughout the procedure. This helped keep Meeko comfortable, hydrated, and stable while under anaesthetic 💉🩺

Just like people, dental health is vital for cats and dogs! 🪥

Hidden dental disease can cause pain, infection, and even affect organs within the body. Regular dental checks and cleanings can make a huge difference in your pet’s comfort and long-term health. Meeko had 4 teeth extracted yesterday and the rest of his teeth cleaned so they were sparkly white again 🤍

🎆 Bonfire Night is coming! 🎇

We’ve set up our Firework Safety Crate in the waiting area to help you prepare your pets for the upcoming firework season. 🐾

Loud bangs and flashing lights can be really scary for our furry friends but there are lots of ways to help keep them calm and comfortable:
💤 Create a safe, cosy den or quiet space for them to retreat to
🎵 Keep the TV or radio on to mask sudden noises
🚪 Close curtains and windows to reduce flashing lights
🐕 Stick to your normal routine where possible
🍗 Offer treats and reassurance (but stay calm yourself!)

If you’re worried about how your pet will cope, speak to our team today!
We can offer advice, calming products, or treatment options to help before the fireworks begin. 💙

🐾 Artemis the Huntress! 🐀👑

True to her name, Artemis the Greek goddess of the hunt, recently decided to take on a rat. Unfortunately, her hunting adventure didn’t go quite as planned, and she ended up with an eye ulcer that later became infected.

To help her heal, we’ve been using serum drops (made from her own blood!) and very frequent antibiotic eye drops. Serum drops are packed with natural healing factors that can be especially helpful when the cornea is struggling to repair itself.

We also performed cytology of the cornea. This involves gently collecting cells from the surface of the eye and examining them under the microscope. It helps us identify which bacteria or inflammatory cells are present so we can make sure we’re using the most effective treatment. 🔬

Artemis has been an absolute star patient and is recovering beautifully. Hopefully, she’ll leave the rat hunting to the myths next time! 😉💚

🎃🐾 Halloween Bake Sale at Manchester Vet Centre! 🧁👻

We’re getting into the spooky spirit this Friday 24th October, 8:30am – 6pm with a Halloween Bake Sale at Manchester Vet Centre!

Pop in for some frightfully delicious homemade treats — cakes, biscuits, and Halloween goodies 🎃👻

All donations will be shared between two wonderful causes:
💛 Manchester Pug Thing – helping pugs in need
💜 The Jasper Foundation for Homeless Cats – supporting homeless cats find safety and love

It’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself and do some good this Halloween. 🧙‍♀️🕸️

🐾 Scout’s Story – Why Pre-Anaesthetic Bloods Matter! 🐾

If you’ve visited us in the last six months, chances are you’ve met Scout, our lovely Labrador! 💛
She’s often found behind reception, keeping our team company (and occasionally greeting clients who can’t resist giving her a fuss!).

Recently, Scout was booked in to be spayed. Even though she’s one of our own team pets seen every day, full of energy, and in great health, we still carried out pre-anaesthetic blood tests before her procedure.

We’re so glad we did! Her results showed high potassium levels, something that can be dangerous under general anaesthetic as it can affect the heart. ❤️

Thanks to these results, we paused the surgery, ran further tests, and waited until everything was safe. We’re pleased to say Scout has now been spayed and is recovering beautifully (and already back to supervising reception duties 🐶).

This is a perfect reminder of why pre-anaesthetic blood tests are so important even for young, healthy pets. They help us detect hidden issues and make sure every patient is as safe as possible before anaesthesia.

🐾 Patient Spotlight: Ruby! 🐾

Beautiful Ruby came in to have a little lump removed last week. She was such a brave girl throughout her visit and melted everyone’s hearts with her cuddles! 💕

After her procedure, Ruby enjoyed some well deserved snuggles with Nurse Katie during recovery! We think she might have found a new best friend! 🐶💖

We’re so proud of you, Ruby! Wishing you a speedy recovery and lots more cuddles at home. 🩺✨
