💚CPR Training at Ferring Street Vets 💚

Recently, our team at Ferring Street Vets carried out essential CPR training to stay confident, up-to-date, and fully prepared to act in any emergency situation. We believe that continuous learning and practice are key to providing the best possible care when it matters most.

During a crash emergency, several key roles work together to save lives:

💚 Team Leader – Directs the CPR efforts, ensuring clear communication and effective coordination.
💚 Scribe – Records crucial details, including the timing of medications, treatments, and CPR events, while also tracking time.
💚 Compressor – Performs chest compressions to keep blood circulating through the body.
💚 Ventilator – Provides oxygen to the patient to maintain oxygen exchange.
💚 Assistant – Prepares and administers medication, attaches monitoring equipment, and supports the team throughout the procedure.

At Briar House, we take pride in caring for more than just pets! 🦭

Today, we were honoured to welcome the British Divers Marine Life Rescue team, who brought in a beautiful seal pup rescued from Margate Seafront yesterday. This little one had been marked with blue spray for identification before being brought to us. Our wonderful vet, Cellina (who is currently specialising in exotic and wildlife medicine), carefully assessed the seal, cleaned her wounds, and ensured she was ready for the next stage in her recovery.

She has now been sent to a rehabilitation centre, where she’ll be nursed back to health before being released back into the sea. 🌊

A heartfelt thank you to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue for allowing us to be a part of this incredible journey. We feel so fortunate to care for and support the amazing wildlife that graces the UK! 🤍

Happy Valentine's Day! ❤️

Let’s show some love by raising awareness about Pyometra, a serious infection of the uterus in unspayed female dogs. 🐶 It fills the uterus with pus, causing symptoms like increased thirst, lethargy, and a swollen belly. If untreated, it can lead to kidney failure, toxaemia, dehydration, and even death. 🚨

Who’s at risk?

Older, unspayed female dogs are most affected, but it can happen to any unspayed female. Around 1 in 4 older dogs will develop pyometra. 📅

Prevention:

The best way to prevent pyometra is by spaying your dog! It not only prevents pyometra but also avoids other health issues like phantom pregnancies and mammary tumors. 🏥 Spaying is a life-saving procedure that can prevent costly emergency surgeries.

🌍💚🐾 Making a Difference Together 🐾💚🌍

At our practice, we’re deeply committed to animal welfare and making a positive impact, not just locally but globally!

Last year, we proudly supported Mission Rabies, sending dedicated members of our team to be part of this life-saving initiative in Asia.

In February, one of our Practice Managers, Alison, joined a team in 🇮🇳 Mumbai, India. Later in October, our team including one of our amazing vets Ewen, Head Nurse Deanna and Our fantastic RVN Clare travelled to 🇰🇭 Cambodia to continue the fight against rabies.

This year, Deanna is taking her passion even further, heading to 🇹🇿 Tanzania, Africa, to continue this vital work.

Why Mission Rabies?

🐕 Over 99% of human rabies cases are caused by infected dog bites, leading to at least 59,000 human deaths annually, most of them children under 15. Tragically, millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed each year out of fear, yet this doesn’t stop the disease.

💉 But there’s hope! Mission Rabies is proving that mass dog vaccination and education programmes in rabies hotspots can eliminate the disease effectively and humanely. With over 4 million dogs vaccinated, human deaths in key project areas have nearly been eradicated, and we won’t stop until the number reaches zero worldwide.

We’re incredibly proud to support our team in being part of this mission, working together to save lives and create a brighter future for both people and animals.

Prea and Prea 👸🏻🐈‍⬛

Lovely Prea was a life saver this week, after she donated blood to a cat in need! 🩸

You might notice that Prea (human) is in a new uniform… we are pleased to announce that she has taken on a new role as a student veterinary nurse meaning she will be beginning to undertake supervised nursing tasks, and develop her clinical skills within the practice.

She is already doing really well and we can’t wait to see what her future brings! 👏🏼
