Christchurch Veterinary Surgery A friendly, well equipped practice offering excellent care for your pets. Christchurch Veterinary Surgery was opened in 2001, by Shane and Charlotte Morrison.

In 2011 we opened a new building at Tuddenham Road business centre, where our referral department (which deals with complex surgeries) was moved to. All of our vets are very experienced. We are an independent, family run business, who strive to deliver the best service for your pets, with a personal touch.

🐱 Today is International Cat Day, celebrating our wonderful feline friends!

This year's theme focuses on , highlighting annual vet check-ups, cat-friendly care, and life-stage advice.

C: Cat-friendly care
Cats may be considered low-maintenance and independent pets; however, they do have specific requirements to keep them happy and healthy at home. Plenty of interactive toys and playtime are highly recommended to provide mental stimulation, alongside high resting areas, safe hiding spots, and, in multi-cat households, the golden rule of one litter tray per cat, plus one extra.

Annual vet checks are essential for ensuring your cat remains happy and healthy, as well as helping to keep vaccinations and preventative parasite treatments up to date where necessary.

T: Tips for every life stage
Your cat's needs will change throughout their life. Kittens and adolescents require lots of stimulation, interaction, and tailored nutrition, whereas senior cats may benefit from additional resting spots, grooming assistance, and joint support.

Beautiful Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Mercy, recently visited Tracy for treatment of an aural haematoma.🩸

An aural haematoma occurs when blood collects between the cartilage and skin of the ear flap, often caused by excessive head shaking due to an ear infection, irritation, or trauma. The initial treatment involves carefully draining the accumulated blood to help relieve discomfort and aid healing.

Mercy was an absolute superstar throughout her procedure and took everything in her stride. Of course, she was rewarded for her bravery with plenty of gravy bones afterwards! ❤️🐾

It's National Marine Week with this year celebrating the incredible migratory journeys of UK sea life! 🌊

For some species of Gull the UK mostly remains their permanent year-round home, however for some, such as the Lesser Black-backed Gulls, an incredible migratory journey of 4,600 miles to southern Europe and Africa may be accomplished during the colder months.

We sadly see many Gulls, particularly chicks, brought into the clinic during the warmer months that commonly sustain fatal injuries to their legs and wings from vehicle collisions.

These birds require momentum to take flight and so it is vital that motorists be vigilant when driving around them. All UK Gull species are protected by law and many are listed on the IUCN Red List due to plummeting numbers. ⚠️

Sweet little Lionhead, Foo, came to see Vet Tracy a couple of weeks ago for the removal of her incisors, which had become chronically overgrown and were affecting her comfort and ability to eat normally. 🦷

As this procedure involved removing the tooth roots, Foo required a general anaesthetic. Small mammals can carry higher anaesthetic risks, so her dedicated nurses, Emma and Naomi, provided exceptionally close monitoring throughout. This included careful aural intravenous catheter management and the placement of an endotracheal tube to support her breathing during the procedure.

Tracy did a fantastic job removing these incredibly large teeth, and thanks to the devoted care and attention of her loving owner during recovery, Foo has made a full recovery and is now eating well again! 🐰

Adorable Rosie came to see Vet Bernardo after struggling to sit down following a walk.

At first, it was suspected that her discomfort might be related to her a**l glands, which Bernardo expressed before carrying out a thorough examination. During the check-up, he discovered a grass seed lodged deep within her ear ca**l.

As removing a grass seed from the ear while conscious can be extremely painful, Rosie was admitted for anaesthesia so it could be safely removed. While she was asleep, another surprise awaited the team — a second grass seed was found in her v***a! 🌱

Thankfully, both grass seeds were successfully removed, and this gorgeous little Cavapoo recovered brilliantly. 💖

Rosie is now back to her happy, playful self and enjoying life once again!

🌱 Grass seeds may be small, but they can cause significant discomfort and even serious complications if left untreated. If your pet is showing signs of irritation, excessive licking, head shaking, or discomfort after walks, please get in touch!

It's been puppy fever at Christchurch recently, and we've been lucky enough to meet so many adorable babies! 🐾

As you can imagine, there were many keen volunteers for puppy cuddles, including our lovely receptionist Jane, who even came in on her afternoon off to meet six beautiful Boxer puppies!

Our other four-legged visitors included:

🐶Hector the Wire-Haired Standard Dachshund
🐶Oscar the Pug
🐶Polly the Toy Poodle
🐶Ruby the Dogue de Bordeaux × Doberman
🐶Sadie the Miniature English Bull Terrier

Every single one of them was an absolute angel, and they certainly brightened our days with their wagging tails and charming personalities! ❤️
