Thinking back to when we first got Olive (and Haku) ✨
SO many people, family, friends & beyond used to say “let your dog be a dog” aswell as many other things.
The thing is though…
I knew what I expected from both of my dogs before I got them. I knew what I wanted my walks to look like and what I didn’t want them to look like. I knew what I wanted my LIFE with my dogs to look like. - I have children, so my expectations were even more important. (Especially considering we rehomed both)
From day 1 we implemented certain (and different) things with each dog… as each dog had their own unique personality, their own strengths and weaknesses… aswell as being completely different breeds. There was some problem solving to be done in areas too!
Fast forward now, the life I envisioned with my dogs.. has come true, because I too wanted my dogs to be dogs… I however wanted this with the safety of training, not with a gamble on trust.
My dogs built a trusting bond with me through training, understanding and investment of time. In turn I learnt from and trusted them.
Today we completed a 6 mile walk - majority of this off leash. We saw horses, deer, pheasants, people, dogs, cows, rabbits, squirrels and more! I done this walk without the stress of what my dogs are going to do, but you know isn’t doing their walks without stress???
👏Every. Single. Person. That. Told. Me. Let. Your. Dog. Be. A. Dog. 👏
You don’t have to put up with bad habits! And why should you? With a simple lifestyle it’s EASY to be stress free!
I done it and I wasn’t a trainer. I was just a person, like you. It was doing it that showed me I should become one…
