🐾 Short-Haired Dogs Need Grooming Too! 🐾

A common misconception is that short-haired dogs don't need regular grooming because they don't require haircuts. While they may not need styling, they still benefit hugely from a regular grooming routine!

✨ Benefits of Regular Grooming for Short-Haired Breeds:
🐢 Removes loose hair and helps reduce shedding around the home.
🐢 Removes dirt, dead skin, and debris from the coat. 🐢 Helps distribute natural oils, promoting a healthy, shiny coat.
🐢 Allows early detection of lumps, bumps, skin issues, parasites, or injuries.
🐢 Keeps nails at a comfortable length, helping with posture and movement.
🐢 Includes ear and eye checks to help prevent discomfort and infections.
🐢 Helps your dog become comfortable with handling and grooming procedures.

⚠️ What Can Happen Without Regular Grooming?
❌ Excessive shedding and hair around the home.
❌ Build-up of dirt, dander, and oils in the coat.
❌ Overgrown nails, which can become uncomfortable and affect movement.
❌ Ear issues or skin concerns going unnoticed.
❌ Dogs becoming less tolerant of handling, making future grooming and veterinary visits more stressful.

πŸ“… Recommended Grooming Schedule Most short-haired breeds benefit from professional grooming every 6-12 weeks, depending on their coat type, lifestyle, and shedding levels. Regular appointments help keep them clean, comfortable, and healthy all year round.

Even dogs with very short coats, such as Labradors, Staffies, Pugs, Beagles, French Bulldogs, and similar breeds, can benefit from a bath, de-shed, nail trim, and health check as part of their routine care.

πŸ’¬ If you're unsure what grooming schedule would be best for your dog or would like advice on coat care at home, please feel free to get in touch. I'm always happy to help and answer any questions you may have.

🐾 A regular grooming schedule isn't just about keeping your dog looking goodβ€”it's an important part of keeping them happy, healthy, and comfortable too. πŸΎπŸ’•

🐾Friendly Grooming Reminder 🐾

If you have a doodle, poodle cross, long-haired breed, or double-coated dog, please remember to keep up with regular brushing at home and maintain a regular grooming schedule.
Brushing and professional grooming work hand in hand to keep your dog's coat healthy, comfortable, and free from painful matting.

βœ… Benefits of regular brushing and grooming:

β€’ Prevents knots and matting
β€’ Keeps the coat clean, healthy, and manageable
β€’ Reduces shedding around the home
β€’ Allows air to circulate through the coat
β€’ Helps you spot lumps, bumps, skin issues, or parasites early
β€’ Keeps your dog comfortable and looking their best
β€’ Allows your groomer to maintain the coat length and style you'd like
β€’ Helps dogs become familiar with the grooming process, making appointments less stressful

❌ When brushing and grooming are neglected:
β€’ Mats can form close to the skin, causing discomfort and pain
β€’ Skin can become irritated, sore, or infected
β€’ Coats can trap dirt, moisture, and bacteria
β€’ Grooming appointments may take longer and be less comfortable
β€’ Desired coat lengths may not be achievable due to matting
β€’ In severe cases, coats may need to be clipped short to remove matting safely and humanely.

If you're struggling with brushing, unsure which tools to use, or would like some tips and demonstrations on how to brush effectively, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'm always happy to help.
Please keep your dogs on a regular grooming schedule also as this is very important 🐾

Your dog's coat care is a team effort between owner and groomer, and together we can keep them happy, healthy, comfortable, and looking fabulous all year round. ❀️🐢

Two little rescue shipoos I groomed, pictured, for an example of how matted they were due to not being brushed at all in this case, or visited a groomer for quite some time. Matted head to two, absolutely filthy with all sorts stuck in their coats and they couldn't even see, one of which had a cherry eye that went completely unnoticed due to the matting. 7 hours with plenty of breaks later they were finally free of all that dirty matted hair. Luckily both boys didn't mind being groomed, fell asleep through some of it and were absolute stars with the whole process.

However for some dogs being left for so long not properly groomed and then visiting a groomer this can have a very different and negative effect on them.

Little Lexi the 7 month old chow chow came in today for her groom.

She was absolutely brilliant. I'm sure she believes she is somewhat of a rabbit πŸ˜‚ she gets excited and does a little bunny hop.

The only photo I could manage to get because she was just such a happy and friendly girl and didn't want to sit still πŸ˜‚

I have been made aware some people have nominated me for a category on here.
I am so beyond grateful for this 🩷

⭐Welfare and handling
⭐ Client experience

There is still plenty of time to nominate so if you feel you would like to nominate me for either of these two categories, or any other that you see fit, please click the link and do so πŸ˜πŸ’—

I absolutely love each and every single dog that comes through my door to be groomed, I put my heart and soul into not only grooming, but making sure each and every dog is as happy and comfortable as possible.
I love building each and every dog's confidence, I love watching them all grow, I love being a part of all of their journeys. I feel like a proud parent everytime they overcome something they didn't like before.
I feel over the moon with the trust they have in me as I do with them.

I can't thank people enough for choosing me and trusting me to groom their dogs. For me the dogs safety and welfare comes first every single time, before a perfect groom. If your dog is telling me they have had enough, then we stop, if your dog is telling me they need a break, then we have a break, if your dog is telling me they don't like something in particular such as being dried, then we slow it right down and continue comfortably.
I would never push a dog past their comfort zone, I work with them, I teach them, I desentise them, I help build their confidence, I show them they are safe and cared for, in a calm stress free and happy environment.

Dogs have been my biggest passion my whole life. Dog grooming became my passion at 6 years old. My first ever job at 15/16 was working in dog kennels. Where I had my first hands on experience with dog grooming also.

It has taken a lot to get here today, a lot of bad times and a lot of good, and now I'm just happy I get to do what I love doing 🩷

Thank you all so much I appreciate each and everyone of you πŸ’—

Some information on how to keep your dog cool in the warm weather, signs of heatstroke and what you can do if you suspect your dog has heatstroke.

Please also check the temperature of the concrete before walking your dog, you can feel it with the back of your hand and if the ground is hot then please don't walk your dog, as this also burns their paw pads.

With really hot weather it's best to walk your dog early on in the morning or in the evening when it's cooler.

Always check the temperature as well before thinking of taking your dog out.

And never ever leave your dog in a hot car. Even if it's for "five minutes" a lot can happen in that time. Cars get very hot very quickly especially in hot weather.

With the weather warming up I'd like to share some information regarding double coated breeds.

Yes they may get hot however shaving their coats (unless medically advised) is not beneficial for the dog.

Roman & Mya will never shave a double coated dog regardless of weather. We would only shave a double coat if it is medically advised to, that includes severe matting where it leaves us with no choice.

There are a lot of ways to help keep your dog cool, regardless of the coat type.

Beautiful willow completed her puppy package today and she absolutely smashed it 🩷🩷

She just cuddled throughout the whole groom, started falling asleep when being dried and then started to fall asleep whilst having her photos taken πŸ˜‚

She was an absolute star ⭐

Willow came for her next puppy session 🩷

We trimmed some nails as most didn't need doing and only a couple needed the tiniest amount off, however it gets her used to the process. She was an absolute star whilst this was happening and just cuddled whilst I clipped them. We also introduced the hairdryer again and she again just cuddled and was absolutely fine with it. 🩷

Such a beautiful loving girl 🩷
