Bee stings can happen to our curious feline friends too! If your cat gets stung by a bee, watch for swelling, redness, or signs of discomfort 🐝🐱

Most stings are minor and can resolve on their own, however some can be serious, especially if they cause an allergic reaction. Signs of allergic reactions include difficulty breathing, vomiting or excessive swelling. If any of these signs occur, contact your vet immediately ⚠️

Symptoms include -
▪️Presence of maggots on the fur or under the skin
▪️Wet or matted fur
▪️Open wounds
▪️Lethargy
▪️Inappetance
▪️Strong and unpleasant odour

PET TRAVEL TIPS ✈️🚗🛳

Holiday season is well underway! Travelling with pets can be fun but also requires some extra care to keep them safe and comfortable. Here's what you need to know:

1️⃣ Visit your vet first - ensure your pet has had a full health check and is safe to travel and up-to-date with their vaccinations
2️⃣Ensure you have all of your pets essentials packed - food, water, medications and your pets favourite treats of course!
3️⃣Ensure you follow safety guidelines if travelling by car - in the UK it is law to travel with your pet adequately restrained. It is acceptable to use a seatbelt harness, dog crate or cage, or a dog guard attachment.
4️⃣Keep your pet hydrated - ensure you have a suitable bowl and plenty of water for your pet to drink, especially in hot weather
5️⃣Plan frequent breaks
6️⃣NEVER leave your pet alone in the car - hot cars can kill!
7️⃣Know your destinations pet policies - check if any paperwork or other requirements such as worming or microchipping records are needed for your place of travel

We have unfortunately had 2 cats handed in this morning to us:

The first cat had unfortunately been involved in a road traffic accident, all black neutered male, looks to be older, no microchip found, but looks to have had bloods fairly recently due to clipped patches on his neck.

The second cat, is an older female tabby cat found at Leachkin Avenue this morning. Is microchipped but unable to get a hold of the owner.

If either cat is yours please get in touch as soon as possible, Thank you.

Itchy pet awareness month 🐶🐱🐾

August is itchy pet awareness month!

Did you know on average, 20% of all cases seen at a Veterinary practice in the UK are pets with skin concerns? 🩺

❗️Common causes of itchy skin:

▪️ Fleas
▪️ Atopic dermatitis
▪️ Food allergies
▪️ Skin infections

❗️Signs to watch out for:
▪️ Excessive scratching or licking
▪️ Biting or chewing self
▪️ Rubbing
▪️ Redness
▪️ Hair loss
▪️ Skin lesions or wounds

We have unfortunately had a deceased black and white female cat handed into us this morning. She is mainly white with some black patches over her left eye, back of her head and her tail.
