Pet Bereavement leave is something I feel strongly about, compassion and understanding for your member of staff who has lost their pet is surely not too much to ask ?
The expectation that you can rock up to work and be unaffected and perform your duties as normal is not only heartless but dangerous to them and maybe other people too.
Emotional distress can cause lack of focus and concentration, mistakes or accidents more likely to happen.
The employment rights act of 1996 states you have the right to reasonable time off following the loss of a dependent, I believe this should cover pets, they are after all dependent on you and most certainly family . A couple of days off is not too much to ask for surely ?
Let’s hope there will be an amendment soon to include pet loss .

I saw this the other day and thought
YES , it’s so true . I am personally navigating through the loss of my mum at the moment, but grief doesn’t care wether your a human or an animal it’s hard .💔

This is often a really difficult trigger to overcome. The welcome home , a picture of your pet just on a wall or table as you come in can help, you can still speak to them , even although the physical presence is gone .❤️
