What a fantastic afternoon yesterday!☀️🐂

We had a brilliant time at Alan Derryman’s Open Day, showcasing his impressive Stabiliser cattle.

The afternoon kicked off with an insightful chat from Alan about his herd, followed by some really interesting discussions on infectious diseases and tick-borne infections led by our vet Nicky Ogden, with particularly emphasis on Redwater. We also heard from the Stabiliser society, who gave a great overview of the breed.

🚜 One of the highlights was the tractor and trailer tour around the farm viewing the cattle and historic parkland! To top it all off, we enjoyed some delicious burgers and scones while catching up with plenty of familiar local faces, along with visitors who had travelled from further afield.

A great day all round—thanks to Alan and the Stabiliser Cattle Company for hosting! 👏

We are very much looking forward to supporting Farmers Weekly Awards finalists (and lovely clients!) Alan and Gwenan Derryman for their farm open day:

📍Home Farm, Sidbury, nr Sidmouth
📅 Date: Tuesday, 12th May 2pm

Alan and Gwenan run a low-input organic system at Home Farm, Sidbury with 75 Stabiliser cows and 800 Romney ewes across 700 acres.

Since switching to Stabilisers, they’ve developed a closed, resilient herd focused on fertility, health and efficiency, producing quality breeding stock. Our vets Nicky Ogden and Keith Cutler will be in attendance, talking about their work with this high health herd.

Alan says ’The Stabilisers do exactly what we need them to do — easy calving, high fertility and great temperament. For us, they are the ultimate suckler cow”

All are welcome to come and admire the stock and learn more about the Stabiliser Cattle Company breed - please register here https://buff.ly/HLBa1Te

Foot Trimming Course at Lympstone 🐄

Last week we had a great couple of days at our Lympstone site, delivering our Lantra approved Cattle foot trimming course led by vet Gareth, alongside vet tech team lead and expert foot trimmer Dave Phillips.

The course was packed with practical, hands‑on learning, solid discussion around lameness, and plenty of valuable tips to take straight back to the farm.

It was brilliant to see such strong engagement and commitment to improving cattle health and welfare from everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who attended and helped make the course such a success.

Our next foot trimming course is:
📅 16–17 July 2026
📍 Lower Coombe, nr Crewkerne

If you missed out this time, there’s still a chance to join us – booking details here:

Looking back to last week’s Devon Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs Annual Show and Sale 👏🐄🐑 🐷

We were really pleased to sponsor several of our local Devon YFC clubs, and were delighted that our colleague Esme Moffett (along with daughter Bonnie!) were able to attend the show and sale at Exeter market.

What a fantastic display of quality stock, hard work, pride and passion for farming! It was great to see so many of our clients competing, as well as supporting their friends and family.

Well done to everyone involved – a huge amount of effort went into the event, and it certainly paid off. Absolutely worth it 😊!

🐄 Calf Lung Scanning: A Valuable Health Check 🐄

Our vet Pete O'Malley has recently shared his expertise on calf lung scanning in Farmers Weekly, highlighting why it’s such a valuable check‑up for youngstock — especially in our changeable British climate☀️🌧️❄️

Lung scanning helps identify respiratory issues early, supporting healthier calves, improved growth rates, and better long‑term performance. When calves are exposed to fluctuating weather, housing challenges, and disease pressure, early detection of pneumonia really can make all the difference.

👉 You can read Pete’s full articles and learn more about how calf lung scanning fits into proactive herd health planning here:

Make sure you have a discussion with your vet to see how calf lung scanning can help your calves reach their true potential!
