❤️With great sadness, we share with you the terrible news that our friend and colleague, Annie Sterry, died earlier this week, following a cancer diagnosis earlier this year. ❤️

Annie has been the smiling face of Corner House for over a decade, and many of you will know her well, of course. Her compassion and humour shone through in her work here - she was always on-hand to help and guide clients, always there with hugs and treats to help the pets feel at home, and has been an absolute rock for the rest of the team - with tea, heartfelt support, and many, many laughs.❤️

Annie - we will miss you every day. ❤️

Our thoughts are with Annie’s family at this, the saddest of times. ❤️

If anyone has messages of condolence for Annie’s family, please do bring them in and we can pass them on.❤️

🩷March is Adopt A Rescue Guinea Pig Month!🩷
💡Did you know…
Many UK animal charities, like the RSPCA and Blue Cross, have guinea pigs available for rehoming as well as dogs and cats🧐
⚠️PLEASE BE AWARE…guinea pigs require just as much commitment as owning larger pets.
❓Could you look after guinea pigs?❓
🐹🐹GUINEA PIGS NEED…
⭐️Twice daily handling, to check them over for signs of diseases like fly strike
⭐️Fresh food and water, replaced daily
⭐️A specific diet to provide the vitamins and nutrients they require and to help prevent ill health
⭐️A clean home, cleared of wee, poo and discarded food several times a week
⭐️Constant access to a large ‘run’ area for exercise, grazing and play (a hutch is not enough!)
⭐️Company - guinea pigs must be kept in pairs or groups, never alone - rabbits are not suitable company, they must live with other guinea pigs to prevent stress
⭐️Regular (6-12monthly) vet visits to check for dental health, parasites and general well-being
🩷💚If you can provide all of the above, and you like the idea of owning guinea pigs, please consider rehoming these beautiful and entertaining creatures 💚🩷

🕊️Many migratory birds begin their journey to the Northern Hemisphere in March.
One example of a long-distance migrator is the Artic Tern - they travel around 12000 miles for just the return leg of their journey! 😱 Wowsers! Artic terns will usually arrive in the UK in April.

🐓❗️Avian Influenza cases have been confirmed near by❗️
😢Sadly, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) cases are rising again in the UK. A case was confirmed last week in Teignmouth, just across the water from us. The disease causes severe illness and death in birds and is a risk to our wild birds and domestic birds alike.
⚠️Please be vigilant and follow government advice - if you see dead wild birds, please report them - details of when and how to do this on the .gov website (see pictures)
🦠If you are concerned about your own birds, please follow guidance on the .gov website
☎️You can call us for advice of course, we can guide you through what to do - but please call before moving your birds - don’t just turn up for an appointment. Potentially infected birds should remain where they are. Thank you. 🙏
