A very busy week but some great surgeries to do!
Megan is settling in well at the practice and many of our clients have met Megan over the last three weeks.
Megan and Natasha are fully K laser trained now (Megan therapeutically and surgery, Natasha therapeutically).
Megan and Mel have performed standing surgery to resect sarcoids from a young horse this week.
Megan and Mel have also performed many standing castrations as the weather has been much better to carry out these procedures. Castrations are routine operations but do carry lots of risks so it’s important to make sure they are carried out carefully and that we have excellent post operative care.
Looking forward to another busy week next week! Have a great weekend everyone!

We are very excited to announce that Megan Geldard MRCVS will be joining our practice in April this year. Megan will be working with Mel and we are looking forward to introducing Megan to all of our clients and patients. Here is a little introduction from Megan:

'My name’s Megan and I qualified as a vet from the University of Nottingham in December 2024. I started horse riding at 8 years old, and soon after I decided that I wanted to become an equine vet! I am originally from Lancashire, but have spent the last 5 years in the Midlands whilst studying at vet school. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, particularly if horses or dogs are involved! I am really excited to join Mel and the team, and to meet all the clients and their horses.'

Busy weekend at the practice! A call on Sunday to a horse who had got himself stuck in the canal. A brilliant rescue by Leicestershire Fire Brigade meant he was pulled out of the canal and we got him to his feet and into a stable for recovery. Amazingly the horse kept eating hay the majority of the time he was stuck and as soon as he was on his feet despite the cold and shock! Thanks for everyone’s help and to the owners who have given us permission to post these pictures!
