Last September the caring children at Brennand's Endowed CE Primary School found a little hedgehog out through the day and immediately alerted the teachers who brought him straight to us. With a Clover ☘️ leaf in his paw, he got his name.
Very poorly with Lungworm we have nursed him back to health and today on the astronomical equinox of Spring, he was released back home at the school. But today was extra special as Karen from The Parish of The Hodder Valley; Slaidburn, Whitewell, Dalehead, Tosside. St Andrew’s church came and gave Clover a blessing as he embarks on his journey back into the wild.
Today makes all the work the volunteers and myself do, worthwhile. 🦔💖🙏🏻

Big shout out to other areas of care for wildlife… it’s not always all about the prickles 🫶🏻🐸

It’s toad migration season! 🐸💚

As the evenings turn mild and damp, common toads are waking from hibernation and beginning their annual journey back to the ponds where they were born. This can happen anytime between January and April, but it usually peaks in February and March.

On the right night, thousands of toads travel up to a mile and a half and for many, that means a perilous journey across busy roads. Sadly, after habitat loss, road traffic is the biggest cause of decline for common toads.

That’s where Toad Patrol volunteers step in! They help toads, frogs and newts cross safely under the cover of darkness.

It might seem small, but these journeys matter. Every species plays a role in keeping our ecosystems balanced.
