If you keep livestock - cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer - you must let us know where you are keeping them so we can locate them in a disease outbreak. This is to help us control disease spread.

If you are in England and you wish to move your animals to someone else’s land or buildings away from your county parish holding (CPH), for example summer grazing or winter keep, you need to:

Apply for a temporary land association (TLA) if the land is within 10 miles of the main area you keep livestock.

Apply for a temporary county parish holding number (tCPH) if the land is over 10 miles from the main area you keep livestock.

These arrangements are time limited and must be renewed every year. This applies even if you are just moving animals locally to a friend’s plot of land or have an informal grazing agreement.

At the end of February our vet Eleri Vaughan and cattle hoof trimmer Tom Vaughan ran a First Aid for Feet course at the practice. The course was run over two days and included informative theory and practical sessions. 🐄

Welsh Government has approved the use of Bluetongue vaccine in Wales. Farmers can opt to voluntarily protect their stock against severe clinical disease caused by BTV-3, with the 3 approved vaccines.

Vaccines are available on vet prescription, and farmers should seek advice from their own vet. Records of vaccinated animals need to be kept and reported within 48 hours.
