We just wanted to update everyone on the kitty who was secured last evening at our Sunderland colony.
Czar, named for his strength and determination, saw Dr Beshay and his team at the Animal Clinic of East Durham this morning where the remaining stub of what was his tail was amputated. Czar was also neutered and vaccinated during his surgical procedure.
We have absolutely no idea how this injury occurred and are well beyond the point of speculating. We are just thankful that Leah, our compassionate colony caregiver, was able to secure him so that he received the urgent medical attention he needed.
Dr Beshay is always forthcoming with potential long term effects of a traumatic injury such as degloving. There is of course the possibility of infection, nerve damage and incontinence so Czar will be closely monitored in the care of foster mom Carrie, where he is in kind and knowledgeable hands. He is, of course, receiving pain meds to keep him comfortable and antibiotics to treat potential infection.
For those asking, today’s surgery was approximately $800. Our sincerest gratitude to those who have already donated towards the cost of Czar’s medical care. Our medical costs have been and continue to be challenging. Almost 100% of the monies ($5012) raised from our auction was immediately used towards the cost and care of our most vulnerable, with the remainder going to food and supply costs.
Speaking of vulnerable, our foster team has advised that with many hungry “wee” tummies to feed, we are quickly depleting our kitten food supply. We are again down to 1 bag of KMR and are running extremely low on RC mom and baby cat, both wet and dry. (We have recently purchased a large amount of Pro Plan kitten wet).
Please continue to keep Czar and all of our cats and kittens in your thoughts and prayers. All are deserving of new beginnings ❤️
