For those of you who also want to hear what it sounds like inside a hay farmer's world...
Yep, another hay video. Why? Because as y’all know, “no hay, no horses”. It’s no secret that global warming has severely affected farming everywhere. This year has been one of the worst hay growing seasons in history. In fact, we’ve been hit with a Canada-wide, record-breaking hay shortage due to extreme heat and minimal rain. At Hess Equestrian, we grow our own hay, which means we need to plan for the worst, then hope for the best when it comes to ensuring quality - and quantity - hay for our horses.
It takes teamwork to make the dream work. We plan a year in advance, prepare our fields, recruit the crew and gear up so that we’re ready for “go time”. We depend on old friends, new friends, and as always the unwavering support of family to ensure our harvest. Then we pray that our tractors + equipment - and bodies - survive the long hours in the fields. Of all the sacrifices made during hay season (no sleep, injuries, anxiety, family stress, farmer’s lung, canceled lessons, lost income…), there’s one compromise we refuse to make: the well-being of our horses. They are our everything.
We have spaces - and plenty of hay - available today if you need a home for your horse.
