Hey veterinary students! Have you considered where you could be learning this summer?

We're looking for a Veterinary Summer Student to join Rhythm for summer 2027. This isn't an observership. You'll become part of our team while gaining exposure to the realities of equine practice – interesting cases, routine care, long days, problem solving, client communication, teamwork, follow-through, and all the work happening behind the scenes.

Depending on your caseload, you'll have opportunities for exposure to lameness and sports medicine, internal medicine, dentistry, reproduction, surgery, hospitalization, diagnostic imaging, preventative care, and emergency medicine. You'll develop practical skills, work alongside DVMs and RVTs, participate in case discussions, and set individual learning and professional-development goals for your summer.

We're looking for someone curious, hardworking and coachable: someone who asks good questions, develops clinical thinking, contributes to the team, and wants to become better at their craft. And yes – someone just as willing to clean up after the interesting case as to participate in it.

Come for the summer. Grow with Rhythm.

Apply via email to [email protected] with your resume and cover letter.
Application deadline: December 15, 2026.

Thank you, WCVM Today for putting on an info session, and for all you do!

Diagnostic tests have confirmed that a Saskatoon-area horse with neurologic disease is a positive case of equine herpes virus 1 (EHV-1).

The ill horse is in isolation at a local boarding stable near Saskatoon, Sask. Its owners have placed their stable under voluntary quarantine since the EHV-1 diagnosis was verified by laboratory testing on Monday, Oct. 26.

Equine field service veterinarians from the Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) are treating the horse and providing it with supportive care at the stable. The WCVM veterinary team is also working closely with the stable’s owners to monitor the health of other horses on the premises.

The WCVM is hosting an EHV-1 information session (in person and online) for all horse owners from 7–8:15 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Oct. 28. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/2003991285882?aff=oddtdtcreator.

When it's time to call the vet for your horse, do you immediately think of a farm visit?

Rhythm gladly provides ambulatory care, and those farm calls just make sense for some horses and situations. Hauling in, however, can make many visits smoother by providing access to the full team, a broad scope of diagnostics and equipment, and by utilizing a purpose-built space designed for equine care and treatment. The best setting depends on your horse, and what they need.

When booking your appointment, ask us whether an in-clinic visit would be a good fit. We can help you decide what makes the most sense! Call, text, or email our office.

Thinking about becoming a veterinarian, specifically an equine vet? Summer 2027 is your chance to come and see what the job really looks like!

Rhythm Equine Veterinary Services is looking for a Pre-Veterinary Summer Student for 2027. This is a summer position for a university or college student interested in veterinary medicine, animal health, or equine sciences. Applicants do not need to be committed to applying to veterinary school to be considered.

You will work alongside our veterinary team in both our equine hospital and ambulatory practice, to get a behind-the-scenes look at patient care, diagnostics, procedures, client communication, teamwork, and the day-to-day realities of veterinary medicine.

The ideal candidate will have a current drivers license and be:

Experienced with horses
Hardworking and capable
Curious and eager to learn
Comfortable taking feedback
Willing to jump in whenever needed
Interested in growing with Rhythm

Students can expect to be a part of exciting cases, but there will also be stalls to clean, equipment to wash, and horses to hold. We are not looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone who wants to become excellent.

Interested students can apply by emailing [email protected] before December 15, 2026. Please include:

- A current resume
- References, with contact information
- A brief cover letter accompanying the email, telling us about your previous horse experience, goals, and why you want to spend the summer at Rhythm.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Unsure of what your horse needs this fall? You don't have to be!

Fall is the season to take stock of your horse's care requirements heading in to winter. It is the ideal time to decide if they need:
-A little help with dental care
- A conversation around body-condition and nutrition
- Seasonal vaccinations
- Parasite prevention planning
- A senior wellness assessment
- Any appropriate further testing

Dr. Toni Theaker takes a special interest in dentistry, preventative wellness, and senior horse care. She will take the time to listen to your concerns and observations, and assess the horse in front of her so she can recommend a catered and specialized care plan. At Rhythm, we strive to recommend what fits the horse, rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

If you have concerns, or something that needs attention this fall, our aim is to provide you with a clear, practical plan for what comes next. Call us, text us, or book your appointment to start that conversation.
