We get it — saying goodbye is the hardest part. But here’s the thing: watching an animal you’ve loved and cared for head off to their forever home, seeing the pure joy on their adopter’s face, and knowing you played a part in their happy ending… that’s a feeling like no other.

Fostering saves lives. It prepares animals for adoption, gives them a safe place to land, and gives you a front-row seat to their transformation.

🐾🐶Reintroducing Ellie!🐶🐾

It's been since January that sweet Ellie has been waiting for a home.

Her story started out sad - but one we hear way too often. She was put on Kijiji for free - her previous owner not really caring what would happen to her...or who would get their hands on her.

So a kind stranger scooped her up instead - without much of a plan, she just knew, the moment the old owners opened the door and pretty much threw this little dog at her, that she had done the right thing...even if she didn't have room, or permission to keep the dog.

But she did the right thing. She called us.

Ellie has been lucky enough to stay in the same foster home since she first came into care - a kind home with another yellow lab to show her the ropes, foster kittens that play and cuddle and two kids that have shown her that scary things like soccer games and loud noises, and giggles and fetch are all actually AMAZING things.

Once a dog who kept her tail tightly between her legs and her eyes downcast, she now follows her person everywhere, tail wagging like crazy, always with a goofy, hopeful smile on her face.

She's smart, eager to learn, and just wants to belong.

She knows sit, shake, down, wait, recall, and is potty and leash trained.

She loves kids, dogs, the outdoors, and riding in the car and she'll even snuggle the cats (just make sure to supervise!)

She’s a little shy at first, making meets with her a little difficult. You won't form an instant bond with her - But if you let her decompress - give her a few days to realize that you're endgame - she'll bond to you for life.

Ellie also has some separation anxiety and we would like to see her go to a home where she won't be left alone for more than a couple of hours a time. A person who works from home, a retiree or someone who can bring her along on all their adventures would be the perfect person for her.

What she really wants is simple:

A family.
A chance.
A forever.

Ellie is a year old yellow lab, vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to love you forever. Her adoption fee is $450. She is located in Red Deer.
