I absolutely love making ink prints for families and it's really helped me embrace my artistic side! Grieving families find many different ways to remember their pets; paw prints, nose prints, photos and videos, fur clippings, urns, jewelry, incorporating ashes into art, making scrapbooks, placing the collar somewhere meaningful, creating a shadowbox or deciding where the ashes are spread. If you have other great ideas or pictures of what you've done for your pet post them here!

*All ink prints are made on 4x6 white high quality cardstock (acid free, lignin free from Michaels)

Beautifully written and thank you for sharing this ❀, I agree, many people do feel alone and struggle with the timing for planning a goodbye for their beloved pet - it's so hard to say goodbye but also the kindest way to honour them by providing a gentle and loving passing when they are suffering, have poor quality of life, untreatable pain or nature will cause an unkind or distressful passing. Evaluating quality of life surveys really help to assess your pet's home life and help with clues to understanding how they're feeling when they don't have words and only actions and symptoms to communicate with us.

The decision to euthanize a pet should be one that you always look back upon and know that the best decision was made and that you would make the same decision again in the same situation. So how do you know if it is time?

We love and miss you Kipper ❀🐾, see you again one day sweet little kitty. Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, a beautiful and vivid written description of a paradise for our pets after they leave this world.

Edna Clyne-Rekhy is the original author and wrote it in 1959 in honour of her dog Major but the mystery of who wrote it wasn't solved until 2023.

This version and how they discovered the author from: https://wearethecure.org/what-the-rainbow-bridge-poem-gets-perfectly-right-about-pet-loss/

A lovely way to remember our precious pets that have passed and help support pets that are waiting for their new families. ❀🐾

🌳🌿The Central Alberta Humane Society offers a beautiful and heartfelt way to honor the cherished memories of pets that have passed with their memorial tree initiative. This beautiful tribute allows pet owners to commemorate their beloved companions in a serene and lasting manner. By dedicating a leaf on the memorial tree, individuals can have their pet's name and the dates of birth and passing inscribed on a leaf, creating a permanent reminder of the joy and love their pet brought into their lives. This initiative not only provides solace to grieving pet owners but also contributes to the Humane Society's mission of supporting animal welfare. The memorial tree stands as a testament to the enduring bond between humans and their pets, fostering a sense of community among those who have experienced the profound loss of a furry friend.🐹🐯For more info: https://cahumane.com/pet-memorial-leaves/

Here's a little note to share awareness. In the animal charity and rescue world there's currently the distress of too many animals that owners want to surrender, or that were found homeless, and not enough families adopting. My heart goes out to the families that feel that they need to re-home their furry family member and to the hard working volunteers at charities and rescues that are doing their best to help. If you've said goodbye to a pet and you're looking at opening your heart to loving a new pet then please check out these local charities (in alphabetical order).

If you can't take on a new pet then consider fostering, volunteering or contributing to fundraisers (bottle drives, garage sales, silent auctions, etc.) to help. Even something as small as a towel donation can make a big difference in the ongoing costs of care of pets without families. This post is to help reach anyone that didn't know this was happening, not only in Red Deer, but throughout North America. Thank you for reading.

My story is similar to Dr. McVety's; while I was working as an emergency medicine doctor, owners were asking for an in home euthanasia veterinarian recommendation and I wanted to make sure pet owners that wanted that service were able to have it. I saw how beautiful and peaceful it could be to say goodbye to pets in the comfort of their home and in their favorite locations, surrounded by those that love them. Check out Lap of Love's website for resources for making the decision to say goodbye to a pet and also for help with grieving after your beloved companion has left. https://www.lapoflove.com/how-will-i-know-it-is-time https://www.lapoflove.com/our-services/pet-loss-support

Lap of Love was born out of a simple yet powerful desire - to help pet parents spend more quality time with their furry loved ones in their final moments, and provide them with the comfort and peace of a tranquil passing at home. As a veterinary emergency room clinician, I saw this need firsthand and was driven by an unwavering passion and profound purpose to make a difference. Today, it's heartwarming to see how this once overlooked aspect of veterinary medicine is gaining recognition as an indispensable part of it. I'm excited to witness this aspect of our profession continue to evolve and help more families find solace during the difficult times.

We wish you a merry Christmas!
