He’s unstoppable! 💪 Our very own Gavin Baggs has once again made history, this time on the track with Team NL Athletics! 💨

🥇 Gavin stormed to the top of the podium in the Men’s 1500m Wheelchair Race, showing the entire country what hard work, grit, and heart can achieve.

Let’s give Gavin the loudest cheer yet! Newfoundland & Labrador is bursting with pride! 🎉👏

Gavin Baggs has done it again for Team NL by winning a gold medal in the 1500m Wheelchair Men's race today at the Fortis Canada Games Complex.

This is Gavin's second medal after earning a silver in 400m Freestyle Para Swimming, and fourth medal for Team NL!

To our families, coaches, staff, officials, volunteers, and most of all, our swimmers — thank you for giving this team your whole heart at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.

Every cheer, every late night, every early morning, every ounce of effort… it all meant the world. 🏊‍♂️❤️

We are so proud, so grateful, and so inspired by the love and dedication that carried us through these Games.

Here’s to memories we’ll never forget — and to everything still ahead as we look toward 2029 in New Brunswick.

🌟 Celebrating Dedication & Excellence 🌟

Today at Canada Games House, two incredible members of our swimming family were recognized with national honours and we couldn’t be prouder! ❤️

🏅 Congratulations to Swimming NL super volunteer, NORM HIGDON, on being presented with the Paul Flaherty Volunteer Award. This award recognizes volunteers who are truly at the heart of the Canada Games, those who give their time, passion, and energy to create unforgettable experiences for athletes, coaches, and fans alike. Norm’s commitment and positivity make him a most deserving recipient of this recognition.

👑 Congratulations as well to Paralympic Champion, KATARINA ROXON, on receiving the King’s Coronation Medal. Canada issued 30,000 coronation medals, awarding them to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada or their community, or who have achieved outstanding accomplishments abroad that bring credit to our country. Katarina’s impact as an athlete, role model, and leader continues to inspire us all.

👏 Congratulations to Katarina and Norm, two truly special and outstanding members of the swimming community here in Newfoundland and Labrador, across Canada, and around the world.

“Calm, meditative, clear… a time for breath, thought and determination.” That’s how NL’s own Paula Kelly – Olympic qualifier, Canada Games alum, and retired nursing professor – describes her love of open water swimming.

Thursday night at the Canada Games was Team NL’s final appearance in the pool. On Friday, they’ll aim to carry Paula’s focus into Healey’s Pond for their last challenge. 🌊
