On this day: 8 years ago, it was a milestone moment for the entire Genoa team as our CEO, Gina Pecore, took part in the ceremonial champagne bottle breaking on the CCGS Sir John Franklin. This vessel marked the first of three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSVs), and Genoa was proud to play a key role by delivering the 3D modelling and production design that brought it to life.

Here’s to the people, partnerships, and projects that shape our story — and the milestones still ahead. ⚓

On this day 25 years ago: As we wrap up this year’s WorkBoat show, we find ourselves reflecting on that very first visit. What started as a modest first trip has become a defining tradition for us. Over the decades, WorkBoat has become more than just a trade show; it’s been a hub for collaboration, innovation, relationships, and growth.

Curious to see how far we’ve come? Check out our reflections and milestones in this article: https://genoadesign.com/genoa-celebrates-22-years-of-success-at-workboat/ Here’s to the next 25 years: more builds, more innovation, and stronger ties across the marine industry.

Genoa has had 22 Years of success at the International Workboat show in New Orleans where we meet new and prospective shipbuilding customers.

🌍 Happy International Volunteer Day! 🌟

At Genoa, giving back isn’t something we do once in a while—it’s something we build into who we are.

Every first Friday of the month, a team of Genoa volunteers rolls up their sleeves and joins Home Again Furniture Bank for their Furniture Friday deliveries. Together, we help transport essential household furnishings to individuals and families.

From lifting couches to sharing smiles at the doorstep, every delivery is a reminder of the power of community and the impact a few helping hands can make.

On International Volunteer Day, we’re proud to celebrate our team members who continue to show up with generosity, compassion, and heart—not just today, but all year long. Thank you, Genoa volunteers, and thank you to Home Again for the incredible work you do across our community.

On this day: Two years ago, we officially signed the contract with Seaspan Shipyards to build Canada’s new heavy Polar Icebreaker. This milestone marks a major step forward for Arctic shipbuilding in Canada.

For Genoa, this project draws on decades of expertise in cold-ocean and ice-prone marine design. Working coast-to-coast with Seaspan, we’re helping build Canada’s future in the North — and reinforcing the strengths of our marine industry. Stay tuned — this is just the beginning. It was a busy first day at the International WorkBoat Show as the Genoa team welcomed industry and government representatives at our booth and met with shipyards and suppliers to discuss all things shipbuilding.

The team is here again on day two as part of CMISA's Canadian contingent at booth #4037. Drop by for a chat about Genoa’s services and how we can support your design efforts as the Digital Ship Experts.

Genoa's founder, Leonard Pecore, shares how it all began — a love for shipbuilding, a commitment to Newfoundland & Labrador, and an idea that grew into one of North America's leading 3D modelling and production design teams in shipbuilding.

From adapting to new technologies and always striving for growth, with our people at the helm, the opportunity ahead is bigger than ever.

What’s a Genoa memory that stands out to you from our 30-year journey?

Yesterday, we were pleased to welcome an international delegation as part of the Joint Commission for Regional Cooperation between the French territorial collectivity of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon and the Atlantic Provinces. Hosted in collaboration with techNL, the visit brought together representatives from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, federal departments, each of the Atlantic Provinces, and multiple members of the French government.

The goal was to showcase the innovative work happening across local companies and spark conversations that could lead to meaningful cross-border collaboration. We also had the opportunity to share Genoa’s story, showcase our team's talent, and explore opportunities for future partnership with our neighbours just across the water.

Thank you to techNL for leading the initiative, and to all members of the delegation for spending the afternoon with us. We look forward to building on these connections as we work together to strengthen innovation and industry across our regions.

Day one of Innovation Waves 2025 is off to a strong start. We were especially proud to see Colin Power, our Senior Director of Technology, take part in the AI & Digital Twin Applications panel, sharing Genoa’s perspective on how these technologies are reshaping marine design and creating new opportunities for efficiency, testing, and innovation.

The panel brought together some of Newfoundland and Labrador’s top ocean tech leaders to explore how AI, digital twins, and data-driven modelling are transforming work in harsh marine environments; a fantastic session showcasing the province’s world-class expertise and growing momentum in ocean technology.

Thanks to Naval Québec for organizing the first-ever Tour of Quebec’s Shipbuilding Supply Chain Ecosystem, and thanks to Chantier Davie and Groupe Océan for hosting us during the tours last week! It was a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the expertise and innovation shaping Canada’s shipbuilding sector.

We were proud to join participants from four provinces and five countries throughout the week, leading into today’s Annual Meeting of the Quebec Shipbuilding Supply Chain. Come visit us at Booth 63 to hear about the exciting things happening at Genoa and to discuss the future of shipbuilding.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation! ⚓

Kicking Off Polar Build with Collaboration at the Core ❄️🚢

This week, we brought our teams together for a dedicated, week-long Polar Build kick-off workshop, and we were thrilled to welcome our colleagues from Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyards (VSY), who visited and participated in the sessions.

🎯 The goals for the week were clear: strengthen relationships, deepen communication, and ensure alignment as we move into the next phase of this exciting project.

🤝 Working side-by-side, we set clear expectations, defined requirements, and refined the processes that will support our continued long-standing and efficient partnership on Polar.

A strong start sets the tone for everything that follows, and we’re proud to be building it together.

On This Day: 2 Years Since All Aboard Set Sail ⚓️🚢

Two years ago today, we kicked off the very first class of the All Aboard! Shipbuilding Exposure Program — a milestone that marked the beginning of something truly special for our industry.

Designed as a 30-hour blend of industry exposure and work-integrated learning, All Aboard! opened the doors for participants to explore the world of shipbuilding, develop new skills, and gain guidance toward a fulfilling career in the marine sector. With no prior experience required, the program welcomed people from all backgrounds, cultures, genders, abilities, and perspectives, reflecting the kind of inclusive workforce our industry needs.

Since that inaugural group set sail, the impact has grown even further: four additional programs have emerged, each inspired by the program's success. Together, they continue to broaden access, create pathways, and introduce even more people to the opportunities within shipbuilding.

Here’s to the first class, the programs that followed, our experienced instructors, and the momentum still ahead. All aboard — and onward! ⚓️
