So proud of how Prim handled her first jackpot weekend!
When she first came home, she was soo nervous around new people- barking, growling and anxious pacing. Once she decides she likes you, she’s obnoxiously friendly.. but it was taking her a long time and sometimes multiple meetings with every single person she met.
I’m going to be honest.. I was a little nervous. We do quite a bit of travelling and the dogs typically go everywhere we do. Not only did I want her to enjoy her new lifestyle.. but I can’t stand a barky dog 🥴
While I figured she most likely just need time to settle in from her move and new lifestyle, we also got to work on preparing her the best we could.
We practiced being neutral around new people all winter- meeting people at home in different scenarios, walking downtown, and going to pet friendly stores..
She got better and better every time, but I was still unsure what her first big weekend away from home would be like. Especially when I had to leave the trailer.
But we were able to camp right next to the warm up arena, visit at other trailers, host a little birthday party, and go to the barn for chores- all with zero reactivity.
The only time she got squirrelly was when she was feeling left out and couldn’t go maul people with love.. and I’ll take that any day 🫶🏻
Just a little reminder that changing homes & routines is hard on any animal. Try not to panic if things aren’t exactly what you expected from the get go!
And thanks to my little travelling pro, Lewis, for demonstrating the perfect behaviour for Prim all weekend.
