Wellness Wednesday 🐾
Did you know that a structured walk can be just as mentally demanding as it is physically?
When your dog practices walking beside you, matching your pace, checking in, and staying focused around distractions, they're making decisions and processing their environment. That mental effort can be quite tiring!
Training during walks also gives you the opportunity to practice skills in real-world situations, rather than only at home. Learning to stay focused around other dogs, people, traffic, or exciting smells can help build better walking habits over time.
That doesn't mean every walk needs to be structured! Sniffing and exploring are important forms of enrichment too. Try giving your dog time to sniff and decompress, then spend a few minutes practicing their training before letting them explore again.
A balanced walk gives your dog opportunities to explore, learn, and engage their brain. 🐶
