We have some VERY exciting news to share! 🩺✨

Our team is growing again, and we are thrilled to officially welcome Dr. Kayla Rollin to Bluenose Animal Hospital! Adding another veterinarian means we are able to better support our community, our clients, and their pets while continuing to grow the care and services we provide. We are especially excited to bring another passionate veterinarian with fresh, up-to-date knowledge and training into our growing clinic. So without further ado, let’s get to know Kayla 😀

Dr. Kayla Rollin grew up in Riverview, New Brunswick, but the South Shore of Nova Scotia has always been her home. Kayla graduated with a Bachelor of Bioveterinary Science from Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in 2023, all while completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2026. Kayla loves all creatures big and small, and has a soft spot for exotic mammals (especially rats). Outside of the clinic, Dr. Kayla loves gardening, kayaking, snuggling her dog Benji, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Kayla is looking forward to meeting all the new clients and furry friends!

We cannot wait for everyone to meet Dr. Kayla over the coming weeks, and we’re so excited for this next chapter for our growing team! 🐾

Please join us in welcoming MacKayla to the Bluenose Animal Hospital team! 🐾

MacKayla is a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) and a 2024 graduate of Northern College, where she specialized in wildlife rehabilitation. With three years of hands-on experience in veterinary medicine and animal care, she is dedicated to continually expanding her clinical knowledge and technical skills. Passionate about both domestic and wildlife patient care, MacKayla is committed to ongoing professional growth and delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

Outside of her career she enjoys an adventurous, creative lifestyle and loves spending time with her pets. Between her dogs, Hemlock and Archie (pictured below), and her cat, Phoenix, there’s never a dull moment. In her free time, she enjoys sewing, crafting, baking, and getting outdoors for little adventures whenever she can. She loves Sunny days, being creative, and surrounding herself with the things and people she loves most.

We’re thrilled to have her here at Bluenose, and we know our clients and patients will love getting to know her! 💙

It’s flea & tick season — so we have a gentle reminder! 🐾

As we head into peak flea and tick season, we know many of you are looking to keep your pets protected. These products are an important part of your pet’s health care, but they are also prescription medications, which means there are a few important steps we need to follow.

To dispense flea and tick prevention safely, we must have a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR).

So, what does that actually mean?

A valid VCPR means:
✔️ We have seen and examined your pet in person within an appropriate timeframe
✔️ We have enough knowledge of your pet’s health status, lifestyle, and medical history to make safe recommendations
✔️ We have an accurate, up-to-date weight for proper dosing
✔️ We are available for follow-up care if needed

This isn’t just a clinic policy—it’s a professional and legal requirement for prescribing medications (just like in human medicine).

Flea and tick products may seem routine, but they are still medications that need to be chosen and dosed carefully. Factors like weight, age, underlying health conditions, and other medications all play a role in what is safest for your pet.

Our goal is always to keep your pets protected while ensuring their health and safety comes first! 🐶🐱

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week to our amazing CSR, Meaghan!

She’s the friendly face at the front, the voice on the phone, and wears a lot of hats to keep our days running smoothly (which is no small task 😅).

We’d be lost without her—thanks for everything you do, Meaghan! 💙

Our team had a great time attending the Atlantic Provinces Veterinary Conference together — it was a great weekend of learning! 🐾

We also recently celebrated two incredible milestones - our veterinary technicians, Jodie Veinot and Breanna Bolivar reached 10 years of service with EVTA! 🎉 Their dedication, compassion, and expertise make a lasting difference every single day, and we’re so grateful to have them on our team. Congratulations you two! 💙🩵
