It is our commitment to provide veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime. We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and would like to become your partner in your pet's health care. Our goal is to practice medicine and surgery with an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team will provide personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner.

“I've been an RVT at Kamloops Vet Clinic for 22.5 years!

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to work with animals, and becoming an RVT has given me the skills and knowledge to ensure every patient receives the best possible care.

My favourite species to work with is dogs, especially Labrador Retrievers! In the clinic, you'll usually find me in radiology taking X-rays, which is my favourite spot, though I also love assisting our veterinarians with emergency and urgent care appointments.

Our job is very demanding and requires a lot of compassion. It's not always easy, but it's very rewarding knowing you've made a difference in your patient's life. I love my career as an RVT.”

“I’ve been an RVT for 5 years!

My journey started in wildlife rehabilitation, where my desire to learn more about veterinary medicine eventually led me to fall in love with small animal care.

Cats have a special place in my heart, but I love working with dogs too! In the clinic, my favorite area is dentistry, there’s nothing quite like a satisfying before-and-after from scaling and polishing teeth, and the patients always feel so much better afterward. I also really enjoy nursing care and looking after our hospitalized patients.

If there’s one thing I wish people knew about our job, it’s how much pet insurance can help. When pets are insured, it eases financial strain and allows us to provide the highest level of care every patient truly deserves!”

“I have been an RVT for 8 years!

My favourite species to work with are dogs and surprisingly, large animals. My favourite area of the clinic is surgery, and my absolute favourite thing about the job is that there is always something new to see.

I became an RVT so I can advocate for those that cannot advocate for themselves. Animals love unconditionally and I believe someone needs to be able to speak for them when they need it. All creatures deserve love, compassion, and kindness. Being an RVT gives me the ability to help animals get the care they need.

If there's one thing I wish people knew about the job, it's just how many hats we wear. RVT equals nurse, anesthetists, radiographer, phlebotomist, dental hygienist, sanitation specialist, laboratory tech, nutritionist, client counselor, animal caregiver, husbandry specialist, and so much more!”

“I have been an RVT for 4 years!

It's hard to choose just one favourite, because I genuinely like working with all species, even exotics. Appointments tend to be my favourite area of the clinic, but I also really like helping out in dental as well!

I wanted to become an RVT because I liked that I get to help with so many different areas of medicine, and that my skills will constantly be growing.

If there's one thing I wish other people knew, it's that you never know what you are walking into and the days are always different. Most days are very rewarding, despite how chaotic it may seem!”

“I am a UK-trained Veterinary Nurse and have been qualified for 4 and a half years!

I used to be strictly a dog person, but since adopting my three cats, I've very much become a cat person and love working with them.
I love all things dental! In fact, before becoming a Veterinary Nurse, I originally wanted to be a dentist.

I wanted to become a Veterinary Nurse out of a deep love for animals, and knowing I could be an advocate for patients who can't speak for themselves is such a rewarding and fulfilling feeling.

If there's one thing I wish people understood, it's that we are not "just assistants" to the veterinarians. In the UK, the title is Veterinary Nurse—which, just like human nursing, incorporates all aspects of patient care, just like you would see in a regular hospital. We are often the person who spends the most time with your pet, from blood draws to anaesthetic monitoring, and we're here for it all!”

"I've been an RVT for 3 years! Normally I would say dogs are my favourite species to work with, but my new cat at home is making that choice a lot harder.

If you ask about my favourite area of the clinic, I would say surgery, though dentals are a very close second. It is so rewarding to safely monitor a patient through anesthesia straight through to recovery and then see how happy they are going home to their owners. I also love the incredible variety of cases that come in—it always keeps you on your toes!

I wanted to become an RVT because I love biology and how the body works, combined with a lifelong love of animals. Vet med allows me to keep learning every day, and as an RVT, I get to perform hands-on technical skills daily.

If there's one thing I wish people knew, it's the depth of medical knowledge and technical skills we actually have. We wear several different hats behind the scenes and always have to be ready for anything to walk through the door!"

"I have been an RVT for 3 years!

It’s so hard to pick a favourite species to work with as I find it changes every day but I love my spicy cats and exotics too. My favourite area of the clinic is definitely surgery because I love all aspects of scrubbing in and keeping our patients safely under anesthetic.

I wanted to be an RVT because much like everyone else in this profession, I have a deep connection with animals. But from a young age I have also had a huge passion for science, all thanks to my dad.

We are always told “I dont know how you do it, I could never” when it comes to sensitive subjects like euthanasia, but something I wish people knew is that sometimes euthanasia is the kindest thing we can do for our pets. To be able to give them a peaceful goodbye is a privilege, and although it is heartbreaking, it is also an honour to see how loved they are and to be there for them in their final moments."
