Too many firefighter candidates in Ontario are failing because they’re not taking the time to properly learn what’s on the test before they go and write it.

If you cannot add, subtract, multiply, or divide, it’s time to address it so that you can correct it and move forward in your recruitment process. 👏👏

Many firefighter candidates assume failing an aptitude test means they’re not smart enough for the job.

In my experience, that’s rarely the real reason.

In this video, I break down the three most common reasons firefighter candidates fail:

• The Late Start – waiting too long to prepare

Why are firefighter candidates failing aptitude tests (even after studying hard, buying prep books, taking courses, and using AI tools)?

👉 Because studying harder is not the same thing as preparing properly.

One of the biggest things I see with firefighter candidates is this:

They’re putting in effort, but their preparation process is unstructured. They’re jumping between resources, doing random practice questions, watching videos, using ChatGPT, and hoping repetition alone will improve their scores.

But firefighter aptitude tests don’t reward random studying. They reward strategy, process, consistency, and test readiness.
