Rainy day? No excuse for a bored pup! ☔🐶

When the weather keeps you indoors, your dog can still get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation:

🧩 Try puzzle feeders or hide treats around the house for a sniffing adventure.
This can include things as simple as toilet rolls with their ends folded in.

🎾 Indoor fetch with soft toys

🧘‍♀️ Teach a new trick. Short training sessions are great for bonding and keeping their brains busy.

🪑 Obstacle course fun. Use chairs, cushions, and tunnels for a mini agility challenge.

☔ Many dogs enjoy going out in the rain (the rain can amplify smells for them.) There is also a vast array of jackets, hats and boots available for dogs to help keep them dry.

Keeping your dog active on rainy days helps prevent stiffness, boredom, and mischief.

Just like people, dogs and cats can suffer more from arthritis pain during the colder months. It can affect dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes and even younger animals.
If your pet is showing any of these signs, we suggest booking in for a check-up as there are many treatment options available:

🐶 Stiffness or limping after rest
🐱 Hesitation to jump or climb
💤 Sleeping more or avoiding play
🍽️ Changes in appetite or mood

Early management can make a huge difference in comfort and mobility.

🦎This is a Blue -tongue skink 🦎

Blue-tongues are gentle, slow-moving reptiles that often wander into backyards looking for warmth or food. They are the largest members of the skink family.
If you see one out and about:
✅ Leave it be, they’re harmless and great for keeping garden pests under control.
✅ Keep pets away, dogs and cats can injure them easily.
✅ Don’t try to pick it up, they can get stressed or drop their tail in defense. they can also bite hard.
✅ If it looks injured or trapped, call your local vet clinic or the Wildcare Helpline (08 9474 9055) for advice.

Either a kitten or a confident adult cat who has lived with dogs before.
🐈The confident adult cat is less likely to panic and run which means less likely to be chased. They're also bigger and more able to look after themselves if the dogs haven't been exposed to cats in the past.
🐈The kitten is more adaptable and more likely to accept that the dogs are a normal part of their household.
🐕The dog's temperament and training are important factors in this too.
🏘 We recommend setting up some areas of the house that the cat can get to without the dogs (they often like heights) which may include rooms with baby gates or window hammocks.
❎To avoid issues, introduce them slowly and avoid getting a timid cat/kitten or an older adult cat with unknown history in relation to dog exposure.

🦜 This kookaburra was brought in to us to be checked over before being collected by a carer for rehabilitation.

If you come across a kookaburra that’s hurt or struggling to fly👇

1️⃣ Approach gently. move slowly and speak softly. Kookaburras can be frightened easily.
2️⃣ Use a towel or blanket to carefully pick it up and place it in a ventilated box lined with a soft cloth.
3️⃣ Keep it warm, quiet, and dark (this helps reduce stress.)
4️⃣ Don’t feed or give water.
5️⃣ Bring it to a vet or call the Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055 for advice or to reach a licensed wildlife carer 🩺

This is Rex, he was in recently for his routine castration. While he was recovering from his anaesthetic, he enjoyed cuddles with Nurse LJ on her last day working with us. ❤🎊
