🐾 Nothing like a 3pm ex lap to finish off hump day 😅

Just your average afternoon in vet medicine…. One minute it’s consults and cuddles, the next it’s emergency surgery 🩺🐾

Big shoutout to our amazing team who jump into action no matter what the day throws at them 💙

🐾 Guess which of these dogs have heartworm? 🐾

It might surprise you to know that 3 out of the 4 dogs Sharyn from Red Collar Rescue picked up from the pound today tested positive for heartworm 💔

The scary part? Most of the time, you can’t tell just by looking at a dog that they have heartworm. Many dogs appear perfectly healthy until the disease becomes advanced.

Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes and is much easier, cheaper (and safer) to prevent than treat.

That’s why we strongly recommend year-round prevention — especially options like the yearly heartworm injection, where there’s no monthly tablet to forget.

⚠️ Missing prevention by even a week can put your dog at risk.

If you’re unsure whether your dog is protected or due for prevention, our team is always happy to help 🐾💙

🐾 May Pet of the Month – Meet Lola & Boots! 🐾

This month we’re celebrating an adorable duo… Lola & Boots 💛

Lola is a sweet little dachshund who is around 2 years old. She’s a gentle, cuddly girl who loves relaxing in bed for snuggles and spending time with her family. While she can be a little anxious at times, her loving personality shines through every day.

Lola enjoys going for drives, four-wheel driving adventures, and camping trips, but she’s definitely more of a laid-back girl than an overly active one 🐶✨

Then there’s Boots — lovingly known as “the baby” of the family 🐱💛

Boots is a Ragdoll cross born February 2026, and he is full of personality. He’s funny, active, affectionate, and always ready for cuddles. Every morning he waits at your feet for attention, and every afternoon he’s waiting excitedly at the front door when you arrive home.

Together, Lola & Boots make the perfect cuddly pair, and we’re so happy to feature them as our May Pet of the Month winners!

Thank you for being part of the Vet Cross family 🐾

🎡🐾 Show Holiday Reminder 🐾🎡

Please note that Vet Cross Bundaberg and Bargara will be closed on Thursday 28th May for the Bundaberg Show public holiday.

For emergencies, our afterhours veterinary service will still be available:
📞 4151 5044

With fireworks happening over the show period, please remember that many pets can become frightened by loud noises.

💡 A few ways to help keep pets safe and calm:
• Keep pets securely contained indoors or in a safe yard
• Ensure microchip details are up to date
• Provide a quiet, comfortable place to retreat
• Keep dogs on leads if out and about near crowds or fireworks

We hope everyone enjoys their show holiday and stays safe 💙🐾

🦴 Feeding Bones – Are You Doing It Safely?
Feeding bones can provide enrichment and dental benefits for some pets, but it’s important to understand how to do it safely.

Did you know:
✔ Cooked bones should never be fed
✔ Bones should always be appropriately sized
✔ Some pets may not be suitable candidates for bones at all

Our latest blog covers the benefits, risks and how to reduce the chance of problems such as choking and obstructions.

❄️🐾 Just because the weather is cooling down doesn’t mean fleas and ticks disappear 🐾❄️

Many people ease off parasite prevention during the cooler months, but fleas and ticks can still be a risk year-round in Queensland.

One of the easiest ways to stay protected is with long-lasting prevention like Bravecto Quantum — providing year-long flea and tick protection for dogs with a single injection 💉🐶

No monthly tablets. No missed doses. Just continuous protection.

📞 Contact our team to find out if Bravecto Quantum is suitable for your dog.

🌟 Meet the Team – Dr April Fegredo 🌟

Dr April Fegredo joined Vet Cross in 2023 after instantly falling in love with the supportive team environment, varied caseload, and the “weird and wonderful” cases mixed practice brings 💙

April’s journey in the veterinary industry began in 2018, first studying Veterinary Technology before transferring into Veterinary Science at UQ. Alongside her studies, she worked as a veterinary nurse in Toowoomba before graduating as a veterinarian in 2023 🩺🐾

She has a special love for feline medicine (thanks to fostering over 200 kittens 😻), as well as interests in fear-free handling, soft tissue surgery, nutrition, geriatric medicine, and emergency & critical care.

Born and raised in Bundaberg, April has also lived on the Sunshine Coast, in London, and Toowoomba before making her way back home. Outside of work, she loves travelling, beach days, and spending time with her husband and their pets — Winston, Zara, Sienna & Chris 🐶🐱

Fun fact: April used to be terrified of cats… now she proudly owns the title of “crazy cat lady” 😄

🐱✨ Jinxy came in this week for her spa day and left feeling fresh, fluffy and fabulous 🧡

Even in winter, grooming is important for keeping coats healthy and comfortable - especially for fluffy breeds like Persians. ❄️🐾

(We’re also slightly obsessed with her tiny little face 😍)
