🐾🦟 PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE! 🐶🐱

Living in Queensland means our pets face parasite risks all year round — and in a high tick-risk area like ours, prevention is something we simply can't afford to forget!

💥PARALYSIS TICKS CAN BE DEADLY💥

Paralysis ticks can cause life-threatening illness in both dogs and cats. Fleas can quickly infest your home, intestinal worms can affect your pet's health, and heartworm can cause serious disease.

Waiting until you see a problem can be too late. Regular prevention helps protect your pets before these nasty parasites have a chance to cause trouble!

💚 WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OPTIONS?

🐶 Simparica Trio – A monthly chew protecting dogs against fleas, ticks, heartworm and certain intestinal worms.

🐶 Bravecto Chew or Spot-on – Long-lasting flea and tick protection for dogs, with coverage depending on the formulation.

🐶 ProHeart SR-12 – An annual injection administered by your veterinarian to help prevent heartworm disease.

🐱 Bravecto Plus Spot-on – Protection for cats against fleas, paralysis ticks and heartworm, while also treating certain intestinal worms and other parasites.

❤️ DON'T FORGET THE DAILY TICK SEARCH!

Even with effective preventatives, no product eliminates every risk of paralysis tick exposure. Check your pets daily, particularly after spending time outdoors, and contact your vet immediately if you suspect tick paralysis.

🦘🐦 FOUND INJURED WILDLIFE? HERE’S WHAT TO DO! 🐨🦔

Here in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, we’re lucky to share our homes and gardens with so much beautiful native wildlife. Unfortunately, animals can sometimes be injured by cars, pets, fences, storms or other hazards.

If you find an injured, sick or orphaned wild animal, knowing what to do can make a real difference. 💚

📞 WHO SHOULD YOU CALL?

🦘 RSPCA Queensland – 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625)
Your first point of contact for injured, sick or trapped wildlife. The hotline operates 7am–7pm, 365 days a year, and can provide advice and connect you with rescue assistance.

🌿 Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation and Education Association (WRREA)
📱 0407 028 540
A local wildlife rescue service covering the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley region, with a 24-hour contact number.

🏥 After-hours veterinary care
If the animal needs urgent treatment and you can safely transport it, contact your nearest emergency vet before travelling. In Toowoomba, REDvets can be contacted on (07) 4602 0652. Always phone ahead to confirm arrangements.

📌 Save these numbers in your phone so you have them handy if you ever need them!

🐾 WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHILE WAITING FOR HELP?

✅ Keep yourself safe first. Be mindful of traffic, dogs, cats and other hazards.
✅ Keep your distance and minimise stress. Keep children and pets away, and give the animal a quiet space.
✅ Call for advice before handling the animal. If it is safe, you may be able to place a ventilated box over a small animal to protect it until help arrives, but don't attempt this with dangerous or unfamiliar wildlife.
✅ Record the exact location. Take note of the street, nearby landmarks or GPS location. This information is important if the animal can eventually be released back where it was found.
✅ Look for a pouch. If you find a deceased kangaroo, wallaby or possum, there may be a live joey inside. Contact a wildlife rescuer for advice rather than assuming the joey is also deceased.

🚫 PLEASE DON'T:

🚫Give food or water, including milk.
🚫Try to treat injuries or care for the animal yourself.
🚫Handle bats, snakes, adult kangaroos or wallabies, koalas, or birds of prey. Leave these to experienced rescuers.
🚫Assume a baby animal is orphaned just because it is alone. Seek advice before removing it from where it was found.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Sick or dead wild birds

If you find sick or dead wild birds, do not touch or handle them. There are biosecurity concerns, including avian influenza. Report suspected cases to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

💚 A little kindness can save a life.

Wildlife are not pets, and native animals need specialised care from experienced, appropriately licensed wildlife carers and veterinarians. The best thing you can do is get the right help as quickly and safely as possible.

🌭🐾 Small sausage, big milestone!💉❤️

This tiny little sausage was in for his FINAL puppy vaccination this week! ❤️

At just a fraction of the size of his personality, Gus has already mastered the important Dachshund skills:

✔️ Looking ridiculously cute
✔️ Collecting treats
✔️ Giving the best puppy eyes 🥺
✔️ Being a professional cuddle bug
✔️ And, apparently, surviving the dreaded vaccination! 😂

With his final puppy vaccination done, this little guy is one step closer to taking his tiny legs and BIG personality out into the world. 🌎🐶

Well done, Gus! We think you're pretty dachs-und-adorable! 🥰🌭

🐾💙 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY 2026! 💙🐾

Today we celebrate the incredible vet nurses Danni, Tori, Bec, Izzy and Schelly who are the heart of our veterinary team. 🥰

They’re the ones holding paws, giving cuddles, calming nervous patients, taking blood samples, running diagnostics, monitoring anaesthetics, preparing surgery, answering a million questions, cleaning up things we probably shouldn’t mention 🤢, supporting our vets and, most importantly, making sure every patient feels safe, loved and cared for. 🐾❤️

Vet nursing takes strength, skill, compassion, patience and a whole lot of heart — and our nurses bring all of that (and more!) every single day. ❤️
