Extreme heat doesn’t just affect us it can be life-threatening for wildlife.
During heatwaves, native animals can become heat stressed, struggling to stay cool, hydrated, and safe. This can lead to exhaustion, dehydration, and in severe cases, death, especially when water and shelter are hard to find.

Read below and learn how to identify heat stress and what to do if you find an animal in distress via the link ⤵️

If you’re ever unsure, always call WIRES on 1300 094 737 for advice or report online at https://hubs.la/Q03-78Q80.
A little awareness can make a big difference. 💚

🪶Found an injured or orphaned wild animal this Christmas? 🪶
With the holiday break and storm season upon us, it’s common for wildlife to become displaced, injured, or orphaned. Our clinic will be closed from December 25th 2025 to January 4th 2026, reopening January 5th.
If you come across injured or orphaned wildlife during this time, please contact one of your local wildlife groups, take it to the nearest 24hr emergency animal hospital or call one of the numbers below:

• Wildlife Rescue Queensland – 0478 901 801
• WIRES – 1300 094 737
• RSPCA QLD – 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625)

🐍 Keep the animal safe and quiet in a dark, ventilated box away from pets and noise until help arrives.

📞 Follow the guidance provided by local wildlife carers to ensure the best outcome for the animal.
Thank you for helping our native wildlife stay safe this festive season 💚

Did you know dragons recognize your face? Your voice? Your body? How you move?
They associate their owners with food, warmth, handling and safety. People have said for years that reptiles are not sentient, but that is so incorrect. Just because they don’t show love and loyalty the same way as a dog, does not mean that it doesn’t exist for them, in their own way 💚

Alex the African Grey didn’t just mimic, he rewrote what science thought possible. He showed that birds can actually understand color, shape, quantity, and even “same” and “different.” He could identify objects, learn new concepts, and once even asked his own question regarding what color he was.
Before Alex & Dr. Irene Pepperberg came along, scientists believed only primates could reach this level of communication. Alex proved that birds are social, thoughtful beings with minds wired for more than repetition. They reason, they learn, they connect, and even sow chaos for funsies.
If you're still reading, time to talk about the down side.
African Greys in the wild are disappearing (like many others). The parrot trade captures countless birds, breaking up their families, throwing them in cages, leaving wild populations struggling to recover. (Just like the movie Rio).
Their intelligence and abilities makes them desirable as pets. With desire, there's demand, with demand, there's a trade, with trade, animal become nothing more than products and often treated as such.
If we want to honor birds, we need to do what's best for them.
Adopt only and keep wild animals wild.

Soaring temperatures acutely affect Aussie wildlife, meaning they may begin to suffer from heat stress.

If you find an animal that is showing signs of heat stress but is conscious and appears otherwise uninjured, there are a few things you can do!

✅ Provide shade for distressed animals in your yard

✅ Provide a shallow container of water for heat stressed wildlife to help them cool down

❎ Avoid approaching wildlife as human contact will stress them further

☎️ Call WIRES at 1300 094 737 if the animal appears to be severally impacted by the heat
