It is with deep sadness that we share this post and news however WRQLD, Wildlife Warriors, ourselves and other clinics in the area are still receiving cases and need your help. Please if anyone in the Margate, Woody Point or Clontarf area sees any suspicious activity or information could possibly relate to these cases report it to Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

In recent weeks, Wildlife Rescue Queensland volunteers have responded to more than a dozen calls for magpies with serious injuries across Margate and Woody Point, including broken legs and injuries to wings, with many presenting in the same or similar locations.

A number of these birds have been rescued and transported to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital and other veterinary clinics. Sadly, the consistency of these injuries has raised serious concerns that the birds may have been deliberately harmed.

Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors has confirmed six magpies admitted to the Wildlife Hospital suffered severe leg fractures and were unable to be saved.

We’re asking the community to keep an eye out for magpies with similar injuries and remain vigilant for any suspicious activity involving wildlife.

Zorro the rose-crowned conure visited Dr Vanessa after his new owners noticed he was struggling to fly following a previous wing trim.

After his health check, Dr Vanessa used a technique called imping, where donor feathers are carefully implanted into the existing feather shafts. This gives birds like Zorro temporary flight support while their natural feathers grow back.

With donor feathers from our in-clinic feather bank, Zorro is already on his way to rebuilding his confidence and mastering his flight again. 🦜💚

Two weeks ago Iris visited Dr Vanessa because her owner noticed her voice had became a bit softer than normal. Usually Iris is loud and proud but it was almost as if someone turned the volume down. Thanks to her owners early detection and a course of antibiotics her voice has come back to normal. She is back to feeling herself again and she sung the song of her flock through the clinic today at her revisit appointment. However we did discover Iris is just a tad camera shy. Iris you are simply stunning and we look forward to hearing more of your songs next time! 🥰

Chi Chi's cheeky appetite!
Miss Chi Chi visited us because her owner noticed she had developed a limp. After further investigation and radiographs we discovered a cheeky surprise! Can you see what Chi Chi has on her radiograph?
Ducks like most birds have curious minds which sometimes ends in them eating foreign objects other than food! Due to the location of this suspicious object it was pressing on vital organs and nerves, causing pain and therefore her limp.
Chi Chi had to have surgery to remove the foreign object and a week post op is happy as can be!
It's important to remember to tidy up after any renovations or handy work done near our curious creatures to prevent the accidental ingestion of foreign objects. 🔨❤️

Well that's a wrap on Parrot Society of Australia Inc. Parrots 2026 international Convention!! Another fantastic event filled with speakers, bird enthusiasts and professionals alike from Australia and all around the globe! On Saturday Dr Vanessa presented on Reproductive Disorders in Female Birds and nurses Emily and Sharon joined her on Sunday. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable experience and for inviting us to participate, we were proud sponsors for this years convention and look forward to many more in the future!🦜🪶
