🐦 Bird Flu Update | We’re Still Here to Help Wildlife 💙🧡

With recent cases of avian influenza (bird flu) in Australia, we’d like to reassure our community that Peninsula Veterinary Surgery is still accepting most bird and wildlife patients.

To help protect our patients, team and the wider community, we ask that if you are bringing in any wild bird or wildlife patient, please call the clinic when you arrive and remain in your car. A member of our team will come out to assist you and provide further instructions.

If you find a bird showing signs such as difficulty breathing, swelling around the head or eyes, tremors, or sudden death, please do not handle it unless necessary. If you suspect avian influenza, report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Jess has a special passion for small animal medicine and enjoys every aspect of helping pets live happier, healthier lives. From complex medical cases and surgery to diagnostic imaging, she is known for her thorough approach and commitment to outstanding patient care.

Just as importantly, she loves building strong relationships with pet owners and supporting them through every stage of their pet’s journey.

🐾 Meet the Team – Dr Loren 🐾

We’re proud to introduce Dr Loren Apel, she has been one of our caring and
dedicated veterinarians for the past two years💙

Dr Loren holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Science from The University of Queensland, and brings both knowledge and genuine compassion to every patient she sees. Growing up on her family’s cattle farm in the Western Downs, she developed a deep respect for animals and the important role they play in our lives—something that continues to inspire her work every day 🐄🐶🐱

She enjoys all aspects of small animal general practice, with special interests in dentistry, ultrasonography, and soft tissue surgery. Dr Loren is especially passionate about working closely with pet owners, offering clear guidance and support so you can feel confident making decisions about your pet’s health. Building strong relationships with our clients is something she truly values 🤝

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll likely find Dr Loren out exploring the great outdoors—hiking with her dog and soaking up nature 🌿🐾
