✨ Meet Our Newest Vet – Dr Leilani! 🐾

We are so excited to introduce the warm, bubbly, and incredibly caring Dr Leilani and her super dog Luna to our clinic family here on the Redcliffe Peninsula!

Originally from the beautiful islands of Fiji, Dr Leilani graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Charles Sturt University in 2018. After returning home to Fiji, she gained valuable experience in shelter medicine and management—where she discovered her true passion for animal welfare and community education.

In 2021, Leilani made the move back to Australia, working in Central Queensland before setting off on an unforgettable adventure—packing up her life and Luna into a Jimny and heading to Darwin. And now, we’re lucky enough that her journey has brought her to us!

Dr Leilani brings a wealth of knowledge, a gentle approach, and a genuine love for every patient she meets. She goes above and beyond to ensure every pet receives the best possible care, and her kind-hearted nature makes both pets and their humans feel instantly at ease.

When they are not at the clinic, you’ll find Leilani and Luna soaking up the sunshine at the beach , or spending quality time with family and friends. 🌊🐶

🐾 Dog Anxiety Awareness Week 🐾

Just like us, dogs can feel stress and anxiety—and it’s more common than many people realise.

From loud noises and separation to changes in routine, anxiety can show up in different ways, including:
• Excessive barking or whining
• Destructive behaviour
• Pacing or restlessness
• Hiding or withdrawal

The good news? There’s a lot we can do to help our furry friends feel safe and supported. 💙

✨ Tips to support an anxious dog:
• Stick to a consistent daily routine
• Create a calm, safe space at home
• Provide mental stimulation and enrichment
• Use positive reinforcement training
• Speak to your vet about tailored support options

If you’ve noticed changes in your dog’s behaviour, don’t ignore it—early support can make a big difference.

📞 Our team is here to help. Reach out to us to chat about your dog’s wellbeing.

Let’s work together to keep tails wagging and minds at ease 🐶💚

🐾 Feline Diabetes Awareness – Lilly’s Story 🐾

Meet Lilly, a beautiful 17-year-old cat who recently reminded us just how important it is to notice subtle changes in our pets.

Lilly’s owner became concerned after noticing a few key signs:
▪️ Gradual weight loss
▪️ Drinking much more water than usual
▪️ Increased urination
▪️ A constantly increased appetite

While these symptoms can sometimes seem unrelated or simply part of “getting older,” together they can point to something more serious — feline diabetes.

🩺 What is Feline Diabetes?
Feline diabetes is a condition where a cat’s body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or can’t use it effectively. This leads to high blood sugar levels, which can affect many systems in the body.

⚠️ Common Signs to Watch For:
• Increased thirst
• Frequent urination
• Weight loss despite a good (or increased) appetite
• Lethargy or weakness

💙 Lilly’s Journey
Thanks to her owner’s attentiveness, Lilly was brought in for assessment with Dr Abigail and diagnosed early. With proper management — including diet changes, monitoring, and insulin therapy — many cats like Lilly can continue to live comfortable, happy lives.

📢 Why This Matters
Early detection makes a huge difference. If you notice changes in your cat’s eating, drinking, or bathroom habits, don’t ignore them. What may seem minor could be your pet’s way of telling you something is wrong.

🐱 Take-Home Message:
Trust your instincts. You know your pet best — and noticing small changes can save lives.

If you have any concerns about your cat, reach out to us for advice.

A lovely client recently pointed out that we don’t feature many cats on our socials 🐱

And they’re absolutely right — but there’s a reason behind it.

When our feline patients visit us away from the comfort of their home, it can be a stressful experience. Our priority is always their wellbeing, which means keeping things as calm and low-stimulation as possible… and that often means putting the camera away 📸❌

That said, our vets and nurses adore cats just as much as you do (maybe even more 😄).

So we’d love your help — drop a photo of your furry feline in the comments below! Let’s fill this space with all the cats we don’t get to show off during the day 💕🐾
