🐶🐾 Understanding Your Dog’s Body Language 🐾🐶
Dogs are constantly communicating with us through their body language, both at home and when out and about. Learning to recognise these signals can help keep your dog feeling safe, comfortable, and understood 💚
😊 Signs your dog is relaxed and happy:
• Loose, wiggly body
• Soft eyes and relaxed ears
• Relaxed tail wag
• Play bows
• Choosing to approach people or dogs willingly
😟 Signs your dog may be uncomfortable or stressed:
• Lip licking when not eating
• Yawning repeatedly
• Whale eye (showing the whites of the eyes)
• Tail tucked low
• Ears pinned back
• Avoiding eye contact
• Shaking off when not wet
• Hiding behind owner or freezing
⚠️ A wagging tail does not always mean a happy dog. Fast, stiff tail wagging can sometimes indicate anxiety or overstimulation.
🏡 At home, stress can show as pacing, clinginess, hiding, barking, or destructive behaviour.
🌳 Out on walks, watch for signs your dog may be overwhelmed, especially around unfamiliar dogs, people, loud noises, or busy environments.
💡 Respecting your dog’s signals and giving them space when needed can help prevent fear and anxiety from escalating.
