Many would have heard by now of the impending Avian Influenza issue facing Australia. 2 cases have been confirmed in Western Australia and we therefore will need to put protocols in place at Veterinary Hospitals as to how we receive, handle, process consults with regards to pet birds/ backyard poultry and wildlife. As we put together these protocols and post them in the next few days, please can we ask that any avian visit to our hospital (Including injured wildlife birds) is preceded by a phone call so we can properly assess risk. In some cases you may be asked to wait in the car and be seen as a curb-side consult. We ask that everyone please remain patient and understanding as we navigate this. We want to continue to offer a high standard of care to all patients but at the same time doing this safely and in a responsible manner.
