Sunday Diet Deep Dive 🐾 | Royal Canin Dental

Royal Canin Dental is designed to help reduce plaque and tartar build up in dogs through daily nutrition. The specially shaped kibble creates a gentle brushing action as your dog chews.

🐶 Which pets benefit most
• Dogs prone to tartar build-up
• Dogs with bad breath
• Small–medium breeds with crowded teeth
• Dogs needing ongoing dental support between professional cleans

Dental disease can lead to pain, infection, tooth loss and even affect the heart and kidneys. We may recommend a dental diet as part of a preventative oral health plan, especially if your dog is not yet ready for a dental procedure or needs ongoing support after one.

❓ Common questions we’re asked:

“Does this replace a dental clean?”

No, dental diets help manage plaque but don’t replace dental treatment when it’s needed.

“Can I still give dental chews?”
Yes, however, dental treats can be high in fat so just check the treat packet!

“Is this suitable for all dogs?”
Dental diets are recommended for adult dogs and cats.

🐾 Why Are There So Many Stray & Feral Cats in Western Australia? 🐾

Western Australia’s cat population, especially stray and feral cats, remains high for several important reasons, and it’s having a real impact on our native wildlife. 🇦🇺

📌 Key numbers from the WA Feral Cat Working Group:
• There are an estimated 720,000 feral cats in WA.
• These cats are responsible for eating 544 million native birds, reptiles & mammals every year.

💡 Why do so many exist?
• Cats breed quickly, females can have multiple litters per year.
• Stray cats often aren’t desexed and continue to reproduce.
• Abandoned or lost domestic cats add to the stray/feral numbers.

🐱 What’s the impact?
Feral and stray cats aren’t native to Australia and are among the most significant threats to native wildlife, contributing to extinctions and putting many species at risk.

💚 What we can do:
• Desex cats early to prevent litters.
• Microchip and register pets so lost cats can be reunited with their owners.
• Keep cats contained or in secure outdoor areas to protect wildlife.

Sweet senior boy Gimley visited us for his dental procedure recently 🦷💙

At 13 years young, Gimley made himself comfortable by snuggling safely under his blanket while recovering.

A little cosy hiding spot can make a big difference to reducing stress during their vet stay. ✨️🐾

🐱 What’s That Belly Pouch? Is My Cat Overweight?🐱

Have you ever noticed your cat has a little saggy belly that swings when they walk? This is called a 'Primordial Pouch' and it is completely normal!

Many owners worry this means their cat is overweight, but in most cases, it’s actually part of normal feline anatomy.

✨ What is the pouch for?
• Protects vital organs during fights or play
• Allows extra stretch when running and jumping
• Helps cats twist and move quickly when hunting

Both slim and chunky cats can have a pouch so it isn’t always a sign of excess weight.

⚖️ How do you tell if your cat is overweight?
You should be able to:
• Feel ribs easily (without pressing hard)
• See a waistline from above
• Notice a gentle tummy tuck from the side

If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to assess your cat’s body condition during a consult or nurse visit 🐈🐾
