🚨 PAWSAFE – IMPORTANT COMMUNITY AWARENESS WARNING 🚨
⚠️EVERY YEAR, PAWSAFE SHARES AWARENESS POSTS ABOUT DOG FIGHTING AND THE DANGERS OUR DOGS AND CATS MAY FACE. THIS YEAR IS NO DIFFERENT!

You may or may not agree with what we share, and that's perfectly fine. But we are NOT here to argue.

We are here to protect animals and hopefully prevent another heartbreaking tragedy.
With concerns being raised about dog fighting and pet theft, we want dog and cat owners, particularly those living in Melbourne's western suburbs and regional Victoria, to take extra precautions especially this time of the year!

THIS POST IS NOT TO SCARE ANYONE. IT IS TO RAISE AWARENESS!

⚠️️SUSPICIOUS MARKINGS ON FENCES & PROPERTIES
Over the years, there have been reports and warnings about suspicious markings appearing on fences and properties, with claims that these may be used to identify homes with dogs or cats

Some people have described individuals watching properties, waiting until owners leave, and then allegedly stealing their animals.

Although these markings are not proven to be linked to organised pet theft, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant.

One person shared a heartbreaking experience with us:

𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 30 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒐 𝒊𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂. 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒏𝒐 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒂 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏.

𝑴𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒈 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅. 𝑳𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒏𝒐𝒘, 𝑰 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒃𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒈.
𝑻𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔, 𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐. 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅.

Imagine never knowing what happened to your beloved dog or cat.
Whether an animal is stolen, escapes through an unsecured gate or disappears under suspicious circumstances, the heartbreak for families is devastating 💔

🚨 PLEASE SECURE YOUR HOMES!
📍Check your fences, gates, doors and locks regularly.
📍Install security cameras or sensor lighting where possible.
📍Never leave your dogs or cats unattended in unsecured areas.
📍Keep cats safely indoors or in secure outdoor enclosures, particularly overnight.
📍Be aware of unfamiliar vehicles or people behaving suspiciously around properties.
📍If you notice unusual markings, photograph them. Don't automatically assume they indicate criminal activity, but report any associated suspicious behaviour.
📍Ensure your dogs and cats are microchipped and your contact details are current.
📍Never leave dogs tied up outside shops or unattended in public areas.
📍If you believe someone is attempting to steal an animal, contact police. Do not confront them yourself.

🏡 START A COMMUNITY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
📍Create a neighbourhood chat, communicate with your neighbours and share genuine concerns about suspicious activity.
📍Keep an eye out for elderly neighbours and vulnerable people who may need assistance securing their pets.
📍If you notice something concerning, report it.

❌️A COMMUNITY THAT LOOKS OUT FOR EACH OTHER CAN HELP KEEP OUR DOGS AND CATS SAFE!

⚠️NEVER GIVE YOUR PUPPIES, KITTENS, DOGS OR CATS AWAY FOR FREE WITHOUT PROPER CHECKS!⚠️

PAWSAFE was recently sent the poster attached to this post. It contains a disturbing alleged quote from a dog fighter describing how dogs and cats advertised as free could be collected and used as bait animals.

We cannot verify the origin or authenticity of that quote. However, the risks of animals ending up in the wrong hands are something every owner should take seriously.

WE ARE ASKING EVERY SINGLE MEMBER TO HELP US SPREAD THIS MESSAGE!

If you see someone advertising a puppy, kitten, dog or cat as FREE TO GOOD HOME, PLEASE SHARE THE ATTACHED POSTER IN THEIR COMMENTS!

Don't attack the person giving the animal away. Educate them. Explain the importance of checking potential adopters and encourage them to seek help from a reputable rescue organisation.

Ask them to contact PAWSAFE with their email address, and we will send them a list of rescue organisations that may be able to assist.

We would rather help someone find a safe home for their animal than see that animal placed in danger.

AND FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!
✅️KEEP YOUR DOGS AND CATS SAFE!
✅️SECURE YOUR HOMES!
✅️LOCK YOUR GATES!
✅️CHECK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS!
✅️WATCH YOUR SURROUNDINGS!
✅️LOOK OUT FOR YOUR NEIGHBOURS!

YOUR DOG OR CAT MAY BE SAFE AT HOME TODAY, BUT ONE MOMENT OF VULNERABILITY COULD MEAN YOU NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN.

PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) WILL CONTINUE SHARING DOG FIGHTING, PET THEFT AND ANIMAL SAFETY AWARENESS POSTS EVERY YEAR, WHETHER PEOPLE AGREE WITH US OR NOT.

Because if sharing one warning prevents even one dog or cat from being harmed, then it is worth it. Why?
BECAUSE EVERY PAW MATTERS!! 🐾

⚠️‼️ WARNING – DISTRESSING IMAGE ‼️⚠️

PLEASE BE ADVISED: THE PHOTO BELOW MAY BE UPSETTING TO SOME VIEWERS.

This is Mojo, a beautiful little Chihuahua whose heartbreaking story PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) shared in February 2025.

We are sharing his photograph to raise awareness about dementia and the importance of supporting vulnerable pet owners.

This is not about blame or judgement. It's about compassion, awareness and prevention.

❤️ THIS POST IS LONG, BUT PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT!

Today, we revisit Mojo's story from 2017 in the hope of preventing another tragedy

💔 WHAT IS DEMENTIA?
Dementia is not simply forgetfulness or a normal part of ageing. It describes conditions that affect the brain, impacting memory, thinking, judgement, behaviour and the ability to manage everyday life.

A once independent adult may begin forgetting routines, becoming confused or struggling with responsibilities they previously managed without difficulty. Sometimes they don't recognise these changes themselves.

💔 WHEN DEMENTIA AFFECTS PET OWNERSHIP
For many elderlypeople, their pet is their entire world, providing companionship, comfort and unconditional love.

As dementia progresses, a person may unknowingly:
📍 Forget to provide food or fresh water.
📍 Forget their pet has been left outside or somewhere unsafe.
📍 Leave gates or doors open, allowing their pet to escape.
📍 Forget medication or veterinary appointments.
📍 Fail to recognise when their animal is unwell.
📍 Become confused when their pet goes missing.
This doesn't mean they love their animals any less. Dementia can affect their ability to remember and provide care.

💔 FAMILIES – PLEASE PUT PLANS IN PLACE
If someone you love is living with dementia or showing signs of memory difficulties, please don't wait for a crisis.
✔️ Arrange regular checks on their pets' welfare.
✔️ Keep microchip and emergency contact details updated.
✔️ Record feeding routines, medications and veterinary information.
✔️ Nominate someone trustworthy to assist with pet care.
✔️ Make arrangements for pets if their owner becomes hospitalised or unable to cope.
✔️ Seek medical advice when memory or behavioural changes become noticeable.
Planning ahead isn't about taking away someone's pet. It's about keeping them together safely for as long as possible.

❤️ NEIGHBOURS – YOU MAY BE THE FIRST TO NOTICE
Has your elderly neighbour stopped walking their dog? Is their once healthy pet suddenly looking unwell? Is their dog regularly roaming? Have you noticed confusion or unusual behaviour?

🚨 PLEASE DON'T TURN A BLIND EYE.
Knock on their door. Ask if they're okay. Offer assistance. Where appropriate, sensitively contact family or support services. These signs don't necessarily mean dementia, but they may indicate someone needs help.
Sometimes protecting an animal begins with helping its owner.

❤️ DEMENTIA AFFECTS THE ENTIRE FAMILY
Behind someone living with dementia may be an exhausted partner, adult child or carer managing medication, appointments, personal care and the emotional heartbreak of watching someone they love gradually lose their independence.

Please offer kindness rather than judgement. Families need support too.

🐾 A MESSAGE FROM PAWSAFE
We advocate for animals every day, but we must never forget the people who love them. Sometimes animal welfare isn't simply about rescuing an animal. It's recognising that its owner may be vulnerable and struggling.

We need to protect both ends of the lead. Mojo's heartbreaking passing is something we hope no family or animal ever experiences again.
If sharing his story encourages just one person to check on an elderly neighbour, support a struggling family or make an emergency plan for a beloved pet, then his story has made a difference.

Dementia may take away memories and independence, but it never takes away a person's right to dignity, compassion and love.
Their animals deserve that same protection.

LOOK AFTER YOUR NEIGHBOURS. LOOK AFTER THEIR PETS. LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER.

🌈🐾 Rest Peacefully Mojo your story has not been forgotten ❤️

GNOCCHI IS HOME! AFTER 12 LONG DAYS! ❤️

After 12 long days of searching, GNOCCHI IS FINALLY HOME!

This little adventurer certainly kept everyone on their toes!

Gnocchi was constantly travelling and moving from one location to another. Despite our efforts with cameras and food stations, nothing could keep him in one area long enough for us to safely contain him.

But at 4.30am this morning, Gnocchi finally decided enough was enough and FOUND HIS WAY HOME!

We cannot begin to express how relieved and happy we are for his owners. After 12 days of worry, sleepless nights and uncertainty, their beautiful boy is finally back where he belongs.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
To every single person who sent sightings, texted his owners, contacted PAWSAFE, shared his posts and kept an eye out for him, we are incredibly grateful.

Community support makes such an enormous difference when searching for a missing pet.

And GNOCCHI... we can guarantee you are GROUNDED FOR LIFE!

PLEASE SUPPORT PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group)

Every search requires time, equipment, cameras, food stations, fuel and dedicated volunteers.

PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) is a registered charity run by volunteers, and we rely on the generosity of our community to continue helping lost and vulnerable animals.

🐾 MUM & HER FOUR KITTENS ARE SAFE! ROOF FAMILY - TARNEIT🐾

PAWSAFE PET RESCUE
PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) were asked to assist a mum and her four kittens. I’m pretty certain you all know PAWSAFE by now we get in there to save an animal, whether people agree or disagree.

Today, we had an army! Myself, Val Keri and Andrea Dujakovic didn’t hesitate to show up.

Taasha Quirk, Nadia Blanco and Ellie Ellis had already been helping the day before. With a trap set and a camera running, Mum was already coming for food.

Then the roof tiles came off, and the rescue began!

With one last kitten still to reach, I had to leave, but the girls stayed back. Just as Andrea was about to leave, she heard the last kitten inside the wall. A small hole was made in the wall, and the rest is history!

The wall will be repaired tomorrow, and this precious little family is now safe and together.

The truth is, we do this for the love of animals. But we rely on donations to keep going, especially with the cost of fuel. Our volunteers travelled from St Albans, Geelong, Caroline Springs and Bacchus Marsh to help this little family.

PAWSAFE contributes towards our volunteers’ fuel costs. They generously give their time, spend hours away from their families and travel long distances to help animals in need.

Please donate if you can so we can continue doing what we love. On Monday night, we’ll be out again in Campbellfield, helping more cats reach safety.

Every donation, no matter how small, helps keep us going.

🐾 PLEASE HELP — WE CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT OUR COMMUNITY 🐾

Sorry everyone, I feel like a broken record, but taking on this colony has left us desperately needing support.

Forever Friends has over 60 cats needing help, and PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) has over 20.

We urgently need:
📍Cat food
📍Cat litter
📍Litter trays
📍Fuel donations
📍Foster carers for both PAWSAFE and Forever Friends

Our volunteers are travelling from across Melbourne to help these cats. Even the smallest donation towards fuel would mean so much and help us keep going.

We can only continue this work with the support of our community. If you can help with any of the above, please comment below.

I’m sorry to keep asking, but we truly need your help. Every donation, foster home and bag of food makes will help us.

WHO LOVES A HAPPY ENDING?

Remember Gemma, the German Shepherd whose previous owner was filmed hitting her?

Whilst we would never condone animal abuse, PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) supported her previous owner, and Gemma was surrendered into foster care.

💗🐾 DON’T YOU JUST LOVE A FOSTER FAIL? 🐾💗

Gemma, now known as Xena, has officially found her forever home with Kate and her wonderful partner, Michael!

Since moving in, Xena has regained her strength and is loving her walks, especially when there’s water involved, and playing with her toys. Seeing her enjoying life means so much to us.

When Kate’s message came through saying that Xena's microchipp has been transferred to her, it was music to our ears and a breath of fresh air.

To Kate and Michael, we are so incredibly grateful for giving Xena the love, care and life she deserves.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Your
PAWSAFE FAMILY ❤️

🚨 WE NEED URGENT HELP — 84 CATS NEED FOSTER CARERS, YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT! 🚨
You’re probably overwhelmed by the number of rescues asking for fosters. Trust me, we understand, but behind every appeal are animals desperately needing somewhere safe to go.

I’ve always said PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) doesn’t take on cat colonies because of the sheer number of cats needing trapping and the difficulty of finding somewhere for them to go. Trapping is challenging, but finding foster carers is even harder.

Right now, PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) is supporting Forever Friends by helping find foster carers for both their cats and the colony we are assisting in Campbellfield and Sunbury.

Forever Friends has 64 cats needing foster care. PAWSAFE has another 20.

That’s 84 cats who need our community’s help. 84!!

Please, I cannot express how urgent this is. If you can offer a foster home, please comment below or message us.

PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP SHARING. Your share could reach someone who can help. 🙏🤞

🚨 20 CATS NEED HELP — CAMPBELLFIELD 🚨

The number of cats needing help is overwhelming. Without desexing, more kittens are born and the cycle continues.

Rescues across Victoria are already at capacity, working long hours to trap cats, arrange care and raise funds for desexing, treatment and other veterinary expenses.

We have approximately 20 cats in just one colony in Campbellfield, and we currently have no rescue able to take them in. Without intervention, more pregnancies will mean even more cats needing help.

Are you a rescue that can assist? Can you foster?

Please comment urgently if you can help, and share this appeal so we can reach more people. 🐾 PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group)

💔SUPPORTING CONNIE COOKIES AUNT💔

PAWSAFE PET RESCUE (Volunteer Action Group) is supporting Tanveer Kaur and her Aunt Connie after beautiful Cookie was tragically mauled to death on 15 October 2026 while Connie was taking her for a walk.

It’s unimaginable heartbreak something you never think could happen to your family.

Connie was also injured and remains in hospital recovering from skin grafts.

We have created a GoFundMe to help ease the financial pressure on Connie as she recovers. Any donation, however small, would be deeply appreciated.

If you’re unable to donate, please help by sharing.

Thank you for supporting this family during such a heartbreaking time. ❤️
