Patient of the Week: Smudge! šŸ’™
Smudge came in for an emergency appointment after being accidentally stood on by a Staffy, and he was hospitalised for monitoring and pain relief. This brave little guy has made an incredible recovery, his recheck showed significant improvement with no ongoing concerns, and heā€™s now happy, comfortable, and doing brilliantly at home šŸ„°
He was absolutely adorable during his stay and looked pretty cool with his tiny black eye, but heā€™s all healed up and back to his sweet self! šŸ¦

Beak trims are only needed when the beak is abnormal, normal birds donā€™t need their beaks trimmed at all! But when a beak becomes overgrown due to diet, congenital issues or trauma, regular tidyā€‘ups can help keep things comfortable and functional šŸ¦ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

While it isnā€™t a normal part of bird care, an overgrown or misshapen beak can make eating tricky, limit normal behaviours like preening and exploring, and even lead to injuries or pressure sores over time. Supporting beak care when itā€™s needed is one of the kindest things you can do for your feathered friend and just like trimming your canine or felineā€™s nails, itā€™s not a painful experience šŸ¦œšŸ„°
