Our gorgeous miniature donkeys were on display at Golden Horseshoe Festival in Beechworth on Easter Saturday. It was a fantastic event, with loads of different things to see and do, plus a Grand Parade.
Our display was also educational, with a diverse display of pack saddles and donkey gear. Loads of people asked questions about donkeys and how to work with them, train them and how to care for them. We had a fabulous day and hope to bring a variety of donkeys next year.
We are in the middle of relocating to our new farm, so we had to make do with the halters we had with us, but they were all happy and comfy anyway. They were so good and I am very proud of our mini team.

We really enjoyed doing donkey rides at the Yarra Junction Vintage Crank Up last weekend.
We realised during the day, that some of the riders have been riding my donkeys at these events every year since they were toddlers. For many it has been over 10 years !! They started their first ever rides on Ruby, and over the years, have grown in size and confidence… and now they ride Spice. A couple of the bigger kids asked to ride Ruby again, for memories sake, but they are too big for Ruby now, so we saved her for the next lot of young toddlers who are coming through. ❤️🫏
Meanwhile… our friend Billy was there with his excellent display of old droving and pack saddling gear. I always enjoy asking him questions about the amazing things he has there, and learning from his experience.
I was admiring this beautiful behind the saddle, pack saddle… and it just so happens that he was thinking of selling it…. and so here it is on Spice… 🙂 It isn’t too wide or cumbersome, and yet it can fit lots of things in it. This will be handy on the rides, treks and adventures that we are now having from home ❤️🫏
Oh, and the beaut halter she has on was a custom made halter that Noel Wiltshire made awhile back, to make sure she is comfortable as well as smart, while she is being led for rides

Spice and I have been out on a forest walk and then ride today. Gorgeous day for it.
This weekend, Spice and Ruby will be doing donkey rides at Mont De Lancey - Heavy Horse Festival - $10 per ride (we don’t have eftpos)
We have been doing this event for many years and it is a fabulous day out, with beautiful heavy horses, and loads of historical things to admire and learn about.

High Plains Working Donkeys have miniatures as well as Australian Teamsters.
Previously known as Iron Brook Donkey Farm. We have bred many beautiful foals over the years at our East Warburton farm, and this is our first donkey born on the new property “High Plains” at Boho South. Moving here has primarily been to improve the climate, space, environment, and well being of our donkeys and to create an excellent care and training facility for them. This little fella is the first in this new location, and he is doing brilliantly.
He is absolutely wonderful, and the tiniest little mini donkey we have bred so far.
We have been enjoying plenty of cuddles with him in his shady paddock through this hot weather.

Spice was at Woodliegh School yesterday for a Christmas event. It was her first time working with the camels. (Murphy worked with them often). When I introduced her, she showed very little interest in them. Then I thought about it… she hasn’t seen camels since she has been with me, but she was originally wild caught from northern South Australia, so maybe she has seen them there.
Spice is starting to get a bit overweight now, so she needs to go on a diet… like most of us around Christmas.

This is Pumpkin.
Those of you who have been following The Donkey Shop page, would already know the story of this beautiful mule.
For those who are new to us, she came to me as a very damaged yearling, after being beaten to the ground and dragged by her tail, among other things. She has been responding well and has come a long way, but we also have a long way to go.
It took months of working with her for two hours a day to get her to float safely to our new property at Boho South (Strathbogie).
Since being here, she clearly loves the broad open paddocks and being able to stretch those legs out to full speed. She has grown heaps, and is now both strong and fast.
I have been busy with a very arduous lambing season… preparing the other property for sale, and a diversity of other complexities … and she has enjoyed some wildness.
Now, we are back onto daily training, with our initial focus being on reconnection. We are getting to know the roads and verges around where we live, and basically, just enjoying time together… and remembering what manners are! 🤣
She is such an awesome girl, who benefits greatly from daily connection and reassurance.
Every minute that I spend with her is worthwhile ❤️

Spice having a sweet and gentle moment with Rusty.
Rusty loves it when they nuzzle his belly.
My dogs have a great relationship with the donkeys. They are together for quiet times as well as walks on the trails.
Unfamiliar dogs are a different story. Any new dog entering the paddock is quickly chased out.
I love how they know that these two Koolie boys are a part of their herd.
(Tilly the mini donkey and W***y the Koolie photobombed the moment)

Our big teddy bear boy, Billy-Bob, thrives on one-on—one attention. ❤️ So, we have been letting him come in and be the supervisor at the shearing shed, while we repair the yards and set up tank stands, tank water etc.
He is currently moulting, so I am brushing enough hair out of him to make a bed spread, every day. 🤣
I met a lady one time who was keen to try spinning Murphy’s hair. Billy’s isn’t quite as long as Murphy’s was, but it is delightfully soft and fluffy.
