Spotted 🐦✨
This striking visitor is a Red-winged Starling (Onychognathus morio) — easily recognized by its glossy black feathers and flashes of rich chestnut-red on the wings (especially visible in flight).
These intelligent and adaptable birds are common around rocky areas, estates, and gardens in Gauteng. They’re known for their loud, musical calls and curious personalities — often hanging around feeders like this one!
🌿 Fun fact: Red-winged Starlings are excellent at problem-solving and will happily snack on fruit, insects, and scraps.
