Keep those toe beans safe this summer! ๐Ÿพ Pavement and sand heat up quickly, putting your pup at risk of burnt paws. When the air temperature is 85ยฐ, these surfaces can range from 105-130ยฐ!

Before heading out:
โ˜€๏ธ Do the 7 Second Test: If you can't comfortably hold the back of your hand on the ground for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog.
โ˜€๏ธ Walk during cooler times of day, like dawn or dusk, or stick to shaded trails and grassy parks.
โ˜€๏ธ Consider protective booties for extra paw safety (but remember to take them off once you're back inside).

Remember to check your dog's feet after a walk โ€“ if you notice redness, blisters, or signs of discomfort, don't wait to seek veterinary care.

As the temperatures heat up, it's important to make sure that your pet stays cool. Here are a few ways you can prevent and avoid serious heat exhaustion:

๐Ÿ”ธ Avoid walks & outdoor play during the heat of the day
๐Ÿ”ธ Ensure your pet always has access to fresh, cool water
๐Ÿ”ธ Take breaks from the heat in the shade, on a cooling mat, in a pool, or in the AC
๐Ÿ”ธ Monitor your pet for signs of overheating: heavy panting, excessive drool, lethargy, vomiting, or disorientation

Heat exhaustion can escalate to heatstroke quickly โ€“ if you notice any of these symptoms during time outside, bring your pet into Ally to get checked immediately.

How does Urgent Care differ from Emergency Care when it comes to pets? If they're experiencing a non-life threatening concern, your regular vet is closed and your petโ€™s condition canโ€™t wait for an appointment, weโ€™re here to help. This includes sudden changes in behavior, minor injuries, digestive issues, allergic reactions, and more.

Not sure what kind of care your pet needs? Give us a call โ€“ weโ€™ll help determine the best care option for your pet, and will facilitate your pet's care with a local emergency hospital if needed.

Tick season is in full swing, and these little hitchhikers are experts at hiding on your pet! It's important to do a quick check on your pet after every outdoor adventure โ€“ especially in shaded or grassy areas.

Run your fingers through your pet's fur, feeling for any small bumps as your go. On thick or dark coats, it may be helpful to part the fur as you go. Be sure to check around the head & ears, between toes & paw pads, under their collar, and under their arms.

Found one? No need to stress โ€“ Ally offers easy tick removal services to help ensure your pet is tick-free and ready for their next adventure.

May 8th is National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day โ€“ an opportunity to take time to make sure your pets are included in your family's emergency plans. Here's what you can do to prepare:

๐ŸŽ’ Create An Evacuation Kit: Several days worth of food, water, and medications. Take time to locate their leash, collar, carrier, or crate and make sure they're easily accessible if you're in a rush.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Update Microchip Information: Log into your pet's microchip system and confirm your name and contact information are up to date. If you get separated, this is one of the most important tools you have to find each other again.

๐Ÿ“ Make A Pet-Friendly Evacuation Plan: Include routes with shelters, hotels, or homes of friends and family where your pet will also be welcome.
