Kuma, one of our long-timers got adopted today! This playgroup all-star, painter, and total sweetheart is an amazing dog. Though blind, Kuma had no trouble chasing his many canine friends around the yard once he'd mapped the space out in his head.

We'll never forget the way he stood against his kennel door when a person passed, listening carefully to see if they had stopped for him. And this time, they did for good💜

Happy tails, Kuma!

📢 Listen up, because this is an ears appreciation post! 📢

Dogs’ ears come in all shapes and sizes, from barely-there (like Lucky's) to star of the show (like Andre’s). And dog’s ears do more than give them incredible hearing—they're also key parts of a dog’s body language!

Drop by our adoptions office to learn more about what makes these dogs unique. And see all our adoptable pets here: https://www.adoptapet.com/shelter/76010/available-pets

Our adoptions lobby and intake office will open a little later than usual tomorrow so that we can celebrate our staff’s hard work all year long! But pets like Scooby will be waiting for you when our doors open at 12:30 pm.

You did it! 🎉 You helped us raise over $76,000 to operate our new Lifesaving Medical Unit on Giving Tuesday, rocketing past our $50,000 goal!

We couldn’t have done it without our generous community: 340+ Giving Tuesday donors, Erin Christiansen and the KOLD team, our incredible staff and volunteers, and especially the four families who inspired so much giving by tripling every gift!

With this support, we’ll be able to operate a centralized emergency room for pets in need, like Connor here, who was rushed to us in declining condition after an animal attack claimed his mother and siblings. Thanks to our supporters, Connor survived. He’s thriving in his foster home, made his television debut 📺, and will surely find a home in time for the holidays.

We can’t say it enough: Thank you!

We have some adorable pairs of pocket pets available for adoption right now! And, since it would be a shame to split these pairs (and their coordinated names), we've running an adopt-one-get-one free special!

Rabbit adoption fee: $50
Guinea pig adoption fee: $25

Last month, Marana Animal Control brought us a litter of puppies who had lost their mother. When the whole litter tested positive for parvovirus, our on-call vet Dr. Cornell acted fast to save them.

Thanks to supporters of our Second Chance Medical Fund, we have a breakthrough treatment: canine parvovirus monoclonal antibodies. This treatment neutralizes parvovirus and shortens the length of time infected dogs are contagious, which is critical in a shelter. Because of you, three puppies survived this terrible illness: Belle, Tiana, and Cinderella.

Their resilience was incredible, and their bond remained strong, despite the separation treatment required. When Cinderella and Tiana were briefly reunited during kennel cleaning, Tiana used her precious energy to wag her tail at the sight of her sister.

Thanks to you, these princesses found happy endings: a full recovery and loving homes in time for the holidays. In the last hours of Giving Tuesday, will you help us save even more sick and injured pets by funding the operation of a new Lifesaving Medical Unit?

Thanks to four generous families, every dollar you give is tripled up to $125,000! That means a gift to save one of these puppies would be enough to save both of her sisters. Triple your impact for pets in need before time runs out! https://tr.ee/NpZsiAGHtT

I’m live KOLD News 13 4,5 and 6 o’clock from The Humane Society of Southern Arizona On this We’re helping raise funds for their Second Chance Medical Fund which will help build an emergency room for homeless pets. Connor kitten is one of the littles who needs medical help and will benefit from your donation. Look how tiny he is!

Spooky’s owner surrendered her because she had been urinating outside of her litterbox. A routine x-ray in search of bladder stones turned up something much worse; the balls of her ball-and-socket hip joints had broken off.

We suspect Spooky has Legg-Calve-Perthes, a rare disease that impacts blood supply to the head of the femur, causing tissue to degenerate. While she seemed normal, Spooky’s injury caused her pain so intense she struggled to reach her litterbox.

Because of supporters like you, we answered Spooky’s small cry for help. The Second Chance Medical Fund paid for surgery to remove the degraded hip tissue, relieving pain without impacting mobility. Spooky thrived during foster home recovery, and her fosters loved her so much they adopted her!

Your response to Giving Tuesday so far is inspiring. We’re getting closer to reaching our $50,000 Giving Tuesday goal, but we still have farther to go to operate our new Lifesaving Medical Unit for pets with urgent medical needs.

Will you invest in a brighter future for pets like Spooky? Thanks to four generous families, every gift is tripled up to $125,000, so your generosity goes even further. Donate now: https://tr.ee/NpZsiAGHtT

Did you know the rate of heartworm disease is growing rapidly in southern Arizona? Transmitted by mosquito bites, the condition spreads from dog to dog and can be fatal if left untreated. But, when caught early, dogs like Rocky can make a full recovery!

Rocky’s family was unable to afford treatment, but thanks to compassionate people like you who support our Second Chance Medical Fund, we were. Rocky received two injections to fight off the heartworms and a peaceful foster home, where he can keep his heartrate down to prevent dangerous side effects.

Our community’s commitment to helping sick and injured pets not only saved Rocky, it prevents the spread of heartworm to pets in our shelter and the wider community. Today, on Giving Tuesday, will you save even more pets by helping us operate a new Lifesaving Medical Unit in our shelter?

All gifts up to $125,000 will be tripled thanks to four generous families until matching funds are exhausted. Donate Now: https://tr.ee/NpZsiAGHtT
