An ornate box turtle shell! The partial scutes were intentional, to show the actual bone structure underneath. I do have the full skeleton, but for now the shell itself is used during public education events! 🐒
These are a protected native species; but this specific individual was a captive bred pet who lived a wonderful life & donated to me several years ago after their passing.

A smaller display but big bones! 🐍🦴 These two bases have a pair of large reticulated python vertebrae mounted to them, with sealed glass covers as always!

😍🌱🐒🌼 I love this piece! Here we have a beautiful large center scute, adorned with dried flora, flowers and other unique natural materials. Long ago, a large sulcata tortoise was donated after her passing; being this tortoise was 100lb+, I was a bit out of my depth back then & the shell ended up falling apart during my attempts to clean it. The scutes, the top layer of keratin that grows on top of the bone itself, mostly fell off as well.
It’s pretty dang rare that not a single bone makes it into my art.. what do you think of this piece?! 🐒 More scute pieces to come!

A large male huntsman spider! πŸ•·οΈ This dude was a friend of mine, he lived in our front porch area for a long while. I would usually see him once a week or atleast every other week, then he vanished for awhile. I was sweeping the front porch and spotted him curled up in the corner, passed away. πŸͺ¦ RIP, hope you found a nice lady spider before reaching the end! πŸ•·οΈ
How do we know this is a male? Well, he’s got big ol’ s***m punchers on the tips of his pedipalps! 😳 (the front two lil’ β€˜legs’)

He gets to live on again either way! β˜ οΈπŸ•·οΈ

Millipede magnet! πŸ› This was a pet milli of mine from long ago, they thrived for a few years in a lovely bioactive enclosure until reaching their end of life. 🧑 Glad I was finally able to create a final space for them; still beautiful as ever. 🌱
As always, custom glass sealed to the front for protection!

🌢️ Giant peppered roaches! πŸͺ³ 😱 These large beautifully patterned roaches came from my own colony of living peppered roaches! Adults will occasionally naturally reach their end of life & when I am feeding or cleaning the colony, I’ll sometimes find them still intact enough to prep and pin to use in art!

I keep a wide array of living critters and crawlers! πŸ•·οΈπŸ¦ŽπŸ’πŸ scaledservices

🐒 A very special Bone Mosaic piece, this shadow box display is 18x22” and is now a final resting place for a leopard tortoise, who was over 40yrs old and donated to me upon their passing, due to health complications.
The mosaic itself took 10.5hrs of time to create; from modifying the frame, laying fabric, sorting and matching bone, designing & redesigning again as I go, to methodical spacing and gluing of each individual piece. ⏳
But in reality, it’s taken over 30+hrs of work over a year+ to get here for this single piece. This tortoise has been with me for full processing, from the initial breakdown and prepping, to beetle cleaning, months and months of degreasing, whitening, scrubbing and oiling the shell scutes, I take full responsibility & care for any passed souls who find their way to me. 🩢
