Connecticut’s animal shelters are in crisis, and ours is no exception. We are full, adoptions are slow, and animals are staying with us longer than ever.

Nearly every animal arriving at our doors has suffered neglect and needs veterinary care. Still, the animals keep coming, with no end in sight.

We urgently need to raise $6,800 to catch up on veterinary bills—and we have not even received our June and July bills yet.

Please help us continue saying “yes” to the animals who need us. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps provide medical care, comfort, and hope.

A Day Out for Kaia

Sometimes the best thing we can give a shelter dog isn’t just food, toys, or a warm bed—it’s the chance to simply be a dog.

As part of our enrichment program, volunteer Jen S. took Kaia home for a special field trip, and it was exactly what this deserving girl needed.

From the moment she climbed into the car, Kaia was a perfect passenger. She rode beautifully, relaxed throughout the trip, and showed just how wonderful she would be as a companion for life’s adventures.

Once she arrived, it was time to explore. Kaia spent the afternoon zooming around the backyard, chasing balls, playing with toys, sniffing every inch of her surroundings, and soaking up all the excitement of being in a home environment. She had an absolute blast! The only thing she wasn’t impressed with? The splash pad and kiddie pool. Kaia made it very clear that getting wet is simply not her thing, and she had everyone laughing as she carefully avoided the water.

Field trips like these are about so much more than a fun afternoon. They provide critical enrichment by reducing kennel stress, building confidence, providing mental stimulation, and allowing dogs to experience life outside the shelter. They also help us learn more about each dog’s personality and give potential adopters a glimpse of who they truly are beyond the kennel doors.

Kaia is approximately 4 years old and was found roaming the streets as a stray. Despite her unknown past, she has remained incredibly loving, resilient, and full of joy. She is spayed, vaccinated, disease tested negative, and microchipped, and she is ready to find the forever family she deserves.

If you’re interested in giving Kaia the loving home she’s been waiting for, please visit:

Before Kaia can begin her next chapter, she has already received extensive veterinary care to ensure she is healthy and ready for adoption. We are hoping to raise $500 to help cover Kaia’s veterinary expenses and allow us to continue providing the same exceptional medical care to every homeless animal that comes through our doors.

If Kaia’s story touched your heart, please consider making a donation. Every dollar helps provide lifesaving veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, diagnostics, medications, and enrichment for animals just like her.

A heartfelt thank you to Jen S. for donating her time, opening her home, and giving Kaia an unforgettable day. Volunteers who provide these enrichment experiences make an incredible difference in the emotional well-being of our shelter animals. Days like this remind dogs that the world is full of kindness—and remind us why every homeless pet deserves a second chance.
