To our valued clients:

Operating a successful practice requires a collaborative effort from our entire team to ensure seamless operations. Stratford Animal Hospital is renowned for its staff's love and respect for one another, which is strengthened by our diverse backgrounds and expertise. We take pride in supporting one another through life's challenges.

Five years ago, our colleague Carly received a breast cancer diagnosis, prompting an outpouring of support from our remarkable community. Carly demonstrated exceptional resilience, undergoing chemotherapy while maintaining her signature positivity and enthusiasm. Throughout her journey, the Stratford Animal Hospital team stood by her side, exemplifying the unwavering support of a family.

Recently, Carly received the news that her cancer has returned, now at stage four. While this update is distressing, we have every confidence in Carly's strength and determination. As she navigates this challenging time, she can rely on the unwavering support of her SAH family, as well as the broader community that admires her courage such as her family and friends.

Carly will be taking a temporary leave of absence in September to focus on her treatments and her family. We assure her that she will be welcomed back with open arms whenever she is ready to return.

**This information was approved and authorized by Carly and she thanks you all for your support during this difficult time**

🐈‍⬛ Black Cat Appreciation Day is more than a feel-good holiday — it’s also a reminder of a persistent challenge in animal welfare.

Research confirms that black cats face two significant disadvantages in shelters:
• Lower adoption rates
• Higher euthanasia rates

This “Black Cat Bias” (and broader “Dark Cat Syndrome”) has cultural roots — from centuries-old superstitions to subtle visual preferences — and it can affect how quickly cats find homes. In some cases, it even impacts the veterinary care they receive after adoption.

Our Trends article dives into Robert Carini’s study of nearly 8,000 cats in an urban Kentucky shelter and explores ways to counteract this bias, from better photography to reframing public perception.

Today’s the perfect day to challenge myths and celebrate black cats for what they truly are: loving, unique, and deserving of excellent care.
