Home of the ORIGINAL 0.5K Challenge Fundraiser

Hobo's Healing Heart assists families in the Black Hills who are experiencing financial hardship with emergency veterinary care and pet cremation expenses. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. Our board members work full-time jobs and process applications during lunch breaks and available free time. Applications are typically reviewed Monday thr

ough Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when veterinary clinics are available to answer questions and provide needed information. We strive to process emergency assistance applications within 72 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. Processing times depend entirely on how quickly both the applicant and veterinary clinic provide the information required to make a funding decision. Do not delay urgent or emergency veterinary care while waiting to learn whether your application has been approved. Delaying care may cause your pet's condition to worsen, increase treatment costs, or result in the loss of your pet. Applicants who delay treatment while waiting for a funding decision may become ineligible for assistance. Please remember that we cannot guarantee approval of any application or guarantee a specific funding amount. Your pet's care and well-being remain your responsibility regardless of whether we are able to provide assistance. We do our best to respond to Facebook messages and emails as quickly as possible; however, due to our limited volunteer capacity, priority is given to our employment obligations and assistance applications. If you need assistance, the fastest—and only—way to begin the process is to review our eligibility requirements and submit the appropriate application. Messaging us to ask whether you qualify may delay the process and could result in missing the 14-day application deadline from the date of the initial veterinary visit, resulting in an automatic denial. If you believe you may qualify, please submit an application as soon as possible. Applications are never accepted through Facebook Messenger, text message, phone call, or email. Assistance requests must be submitted through the official application process.

Responsible Pet Ownership Includes Being a Good Neighbor

Dogs bark, we get it. However, excessive barking is not only stressful for neighbors, but it can also be a sign that a dog needs more exercise, enrichment, training, or companionship.

If excessive barking becomes a recurring problem, local ordinances may provide options for addressing nuisance animal concerns. Contact your local police department, animal control officer, or code enforcement agency to learn about the regulations in your area.

At Hobo’s Healing Heart, we believe responsible pet ownership helps create stronger communities, happier pets, and better relationships between neighbors.

🛑 NEED EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE ASSISTANCE? PLEASE READ! 🛑

If you are seeking emergency veterinary care assistance from Hobo’s Healing Heart, please complete an Emergency Assistance Application through our website.

Our Contact Us form, Facebook Messenger, social media comments, emails, and other communication channels cannot and will not be used to determine eligibility, funding availability, or approve assistance requests.

Why?

Every application must go through the same review process to ensure fairness, consistency, and responsible stewardship of donor funds. We cannot determine whether an applicant qualifies for assistance without a completed application and the required supporting documentation.

To help pet owners get the care their pets need first and worry about payment later, applications may be submitted up to 14 days after the initial veterinary visit.

Before contacting us regarding emergency assistance, please:

✔️ Review the eligibility requirements on our website
✔️ Complete the Emergency Assistance Application
✔️ Submit all required documentation

Please note that emergency assistance inquiries submitted through our Contact Us form or other communication channels may not receive a response and will be directed back to the application process.

Following the application process is the FASTEST way for our volunteer board to review your request and determine whether assistance may be available.

Thank you for helping us serve pet owners across the Black Hills fairly and efficiently.

This is what your support makes possible. 🐾🥰

Together, we were able to help with life-changing surgery and give this sweet girl a brighter future after a femur fracture.
