August 21, 2026, FROMM FAMILY FOODS of MEQUON, Wisconsin is recalling 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet canned dog food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet canned dog food due to potential metal contamination.

There are some people whose impact doesn't end when their life does—it continues through the lives they touch.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the family and friends of Robert "Bob" Collins for choosing Hobo's Healing Heart as a way to honor Bob's memory. Because of your incredible generosity, $5,805 was donated in his name.

Bob dedicated his life to serving others—through his work, his leadership as Spearfish Fire Chief, his love of bringing people together, and his deep compassion for dogs. It is only fitting that his legacy will now continue by helping families facing financial hardship keep their beloved pets by their side during veterinary emergencies.

Every one of those memorial donations will become hope for a family in crisis. They will help save lives, ease heartbreak, and ensure that the bond between people and their pets can continue because of the kindness shown in Bob's honor.

To Bob's family: thank you for entrusting us with this incredible gift. We are humbled that you chose Hobo's Healing Heart to carry forward Bob's lifelong love of dogs and his spirit of helping others.

☀️ What a day! ☀️

It was a scorcher! With temperatures reaching 106°F, we knew safety had to come first.

As always, our walk was completely optional, and this year we even created a 0.005K course (just 16 feet!) for anyone who wanted to say they crossed the finish line without spending too much time in the heat.

Because here’s the thing…

The event ticket fee has never been about the 0.5K walk. It’s about raising the money needed to keep our mission going.

Some people come to walk. Some come to cheer on friends and family. Others come for the auction, door prizes, the 50/50 raffle, the camaraderie of spending time with those who share a love of pets, the costume contest at October’s event, or—new this year—our first-ever trivia competition! Every person who purchases an entry ticket helps support Hobo’s Healing Heart’s mission, whether they walk a single step or not.

Our fundraiser exists for one reason: to help families in the Black Hills facing financial hardship afford emergency veterinary care and pet cremation services. Every event ticket, every auction bid, every raffle ticket, every donation, and every sponsorship help make that possible.

Despite the extreme heat, 74 amazing people braved the dog days of summer to support our mission. Of those, 38 chose to walk the course, while many others enjoyed trivia, the auction, door prizes, and simply spending time together.

Together, you helped raise $2,643.83 through event tickets, the silent auction, the 50/50 raffle, and your generous donations!

☀️ Hot Weather Reminder for Pet Owners ☀️

With temperatures climbing into the upper 90s and beyond, it’s important to remember that what feels hot to us can be life-threatening for our pets.

🌡️ How Hot Is Too Hot for a Dog to Ride in the Back of a Pickup Truck?

There isn’t one exact temperature that suddenly becomes dangerous like when left in a car, but the risk increases quickly as the thermometer climbs.

We just saw a black dog in the back of a pickup panting horribly even though they were driving over 70mph so we thought we would post a reminder. While the ORIGINAL 0.5K Don’t Get Lost Challenge is still happening on Sunday and we have moved inside, please leave pets at home.

🟡 80–90°F: Use extreme caution.
Direct sunlight, hot metal surfaces, humidity, and limited access to water can cause a dog’s body temperature to rise rapidly. Even short trips can be risky, especially for puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, flat-faced breeds, and dogs with underlying health conditions.

🔴 90°F and Above: The safest answer is don’t do it.
A dog riding in the back of a pickup truck on a 90°F+ day—especially without shade—is at serious risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. At 98°F, the wind from driving is still 98°F. It isn’t cooling your dog; it’s simply blowing hot air over them while the sun and hot truck bed continue adding heat.

Dogs cool themselves primarily by panting, which is much less efficient than the way humans sweat. Once they begin to overheat, their condition can deteriorate quickly.

If you must travel with your dog:
🐾 Keep them inside the air-conditioned cab whenever possible.
🐾 Provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
🐾 Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
🐾 Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive panting, heavy drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or collapse.

🚨 Heat stroke is a true veterinary emergency. Prevention is always easier—and far less costly—than emergency treatment.
