🐾 Tired of finding cat hair everywhere?
Let’s be honest, it’s annoying to constantly be using hair removal rollers on yourself, the couch, bed, etc
Shedding is totally normal, but excessive shedding can often be managed with a few simple habits. This also helps keep a soft coat.
✨ Regular brushing
Even short-haired cats benefit from brushing! This helps remove loose fur before it ends up on your furniture (or in hairballs). Different coats need different tools. I like a comb for my long haired cat, but a slicker (short bristles) is my favorite for the short hair cats.
💧 Proper hydration
Cats that don’t get enough moisture can have drier skin, which can lead to more shedding. This is where feeding soft food is so helpful.
🥩 A balanced, quality diet
Healthy skin and coat start from within, look for foods rich in omega fatty acids to support coat health. In my cat nutrition classes I was taught soft food is always better than kibble. I have seen first hand time and time again how much coat health has improved once on soft food. This really is a topic I could speak about extensively but I’ll not go off topic.
🛁 Routine grooming
Professional grooming can help remove built-up undercoat and keep your cat feeling comfortable. Ideally blowing out a coat because it removes so much more but some cats cannot handle it, it’s too stressful. Other cats are okay with it.
🏡 Reduce stress
Stress can sometimes increase shedding in cats, keeping a calm, enriched environment can make a difference.
While some shedding is normal, excessive shedding, thinning fur, or skin issues can be a sign of something more—so it’s always good to keep an eye on changes.
A little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your cat’s coat soft, healthy, and (a little less) everywhere 🐱✨
