Coco's Heart Dog Rescue Coco's Heart takes in neglected animals, provides them with medical care and a loving environment.

Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue is an effort grounded in love, dedication and determination. The dream of establishing this rescue started back in 2000 when a very special dog, Coco, passed away unexpectedly at age 5. The loss inspired Coco’s owner, 12 year-old Ashley, to save other canine friends in his name. Ashley and Coco had been the best of friends and it is in his name that this endeavor lives on…. CHDR depends on private donations to function and rescue friends in need.

Rows of old rusted out kennels where many dogs are just sitting...with no good chance at a good life. They are forgotten by most, cared for by few, and they need help. They have no voice. They are miserable :(

Spirit…. a beautiful soul we will never forget. She left a mark on our hearts from the moment we held her paw. We are so thankful to be part of her healing & honored to have been able to place her with the *most amazing* foster family and help her find a love filled, incredible forever family. Our ‘Out if the Cold’ rescue effort is our largest rescue effort of the year coming up in November, and our Annual Auction supporting it is crucial to help support the finacial burden it places on rescue, providing veterinary care for hundreds of animals need.

Here is a snippet of what our veterinary team did today. They changed the lives of neglected dogs.

So much pain removed today. Scooter’s situation, well he has suffered the most. 💔

Scooter a 7 year old Doxie, discarded by a commercial breeder, ended up needing a hemimandibulectomy (removal of part of his jaw) due to the severity of neglect & decay. How long has he been in discomfort and pain, while continuing to breed for greed? It breaks our hearts.

We are hoping to raise $900 towards Scooters procedures today, any help is appreciated!

Bugsy update! After spending numerous days hospitalized at the emergency clinic, in critical condition, involving an altercation with another dog. Bugsy is finally back home with her foster mom, who will go to the end of the earth to help her. She has visited the emergency vet by her side throughout her stay, bringing her back and forth, making sure she is never without. Now she is resting comfortably back in her arms, and on strict restrictions and careful watch. She is still not well, she needs continued care, monitoring in clinic often and lots and lots of TLC.

BUT, it appears that your healing energy, prayers, love, and the amazing care provided both in house and by her team at the emergency clinic worked… her darkest days seemed to have passed! We are still hoping to recoup financially for her care, and fundraise for her future appointments & recovery plan, any donations made on this post mean so much.

A few days ago Bugsy was lifeless, she couldn’t breathe and we were scared. We turned to you, we pleaded for your help to give her a fighting chance and we are so grateful for each and every person who has been part of her support system. More updates to come!

Welcome to Coco's Heart James!

James is the shy little soul of his trio, and he’s looking for someone who understands that the best things sometimes take a little time.

James is still learning that people can be trusted. He’s skittish and easily scared, and he may hiss when he’s feeling nervous, a little warning that he needs some space. But underneath that uncertainty is an incredibly sweet kitten who is slowly, but surely, coming out of his shell.

With patience and gentle encouragement, James is already starting to make progress. He now accepts pets from his foster mom and is beginning to show that there’s a very affectionate little guy hiding behind those cautious eyes.

James will need a family willing to let him set the pace and give him the time he needs to feel safe. He isn’t going to be the kitten who runs up and immediately demands to be held, but watching him learn to trust you will make every little milestone that much more special.

He may be a little “invisible string” kind of love story, the kind that takes time to find its way to you. And once James decides you’re his person, I have a feeling that bond will be pretty darn special.
