We wanted to take a moment today to highlight a team of community heros!

Our friends at Pooch Dooty are beautifying yards in time for graduation parties, holiday cookouts, and just pure summer enjoyment. They do the dirty work so you can relax and play, and not worry about the landmines lurking underfoot! We highly recommend giving them a shout! A freshly scooped yard feels SO GOOD!! πŸ•πŸ’©

NINETEEN years young! 🐢

This adorable and spry old man 'Marley' came to see us for his Annual Wellness checkup today, and boy, is he showing time who's boss!

Senior wellness visits are definitely important, as we often see start to see more systemic, metabolic, physical and cognitive changes in this phase of life. Routine exams help us to monitor these changes so that we can help you support their needs s they advance in their years.

Meet Squishy 😊 our 'unofficial' clinic cat 😸

Squishy joined our practice in 2020 when she was found with a potentially life threatening injury. She was presumably hit by a car, and suffered from a broken pelvis and tail. Due to her pelvic fracture and subsequent nerve damage, Squishy has been unable to urinate and defecate normally on her own.

The first couple months were difficult with her little body trying to heal the injuries, and she also needed a urinary catheter in place to empty her bladder. She is certainly a fighter, and now you would never know she had experienced such severe injuries.

Squish joined Dr. Sadie's pride of cats, and has been coming along to the clinic with her nearly every day since. Dr. Sadie has to help her go to the bathroom on a daily basis, but otherwise she is extremely athletic and loves climbing and playing fetch! Here at the clinic, with her little bobbed tail a-flouncing, Squishy provides emotional support and LOTS of entertainment in exchange for snacks, pets, and fuzzy blankets. πŸ’—

Heads up: content may be disturbing to some

A high-interest post for those of you who ever wondered what constipation looks like in a kitty.
The first image shows a large f***l mass within the GI tract. As a young cat, our kitty suffered an injury to his pelvis. which in healing caused a narrowing of the space the f***s needs to pass through. Our kitty is currently on long- term medication to help lubricate the f***l matter as it moves through, as well as medication to stimulate smooth muscle contractions in the intestine to increase colonic movement.
Sometimes, however, he needs a little help deobstipating.
The second film shows the colon the day after his e***a treatments, progress being made! Glad to report patient is currently doing well and passing normal stools.

Today we take a moment to celebrate our Veterinarians, Dr. Sadie, Dr. Alyssa, Dr. Sonja, and Dr. Jaime, as well as all of the Doctors in our industry that accept the commitment, and devote their lives to the care of their animal patients.
Can you imagine being a Doctor for multiple species, and knowing all the things that each require and entail? To have patients that cannot talk and tell you when symptoms started, or what differences they are experiencing, or how medication makes them feel? Veterinarians require a different, special level of compassion and intuition. We are grateful to have an amazing team here at Somerset Animal Hospital.
