1000 miles later… he’s finally home. This is the first moment of the rest of his life. So proud of you, Scullyism. 🤍

Meet Staff Sergeant Reckless, officially ranked and a valuable member of the US Marine Corps. She served in numerous combat operations as a pack horse, carrying supplies, ammunition, and wounded soldiers off of the battlefield. A highlight of her time in the Corps was successfully finishing 51 solo trips to and from the battlefield resupplying her fellow soldiers in one single day. She has received two Purple Hearts and a Good Conduct Medal along with several other honors during her time in service.

Today, on Memorial Day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, human and animal, for their country's freedom. We are forever grateful and today is about honoring their legacies.

Three days of wrapping his hoof came down to this moment. Wait for it... Part 2!

This simple switch could literally save your horse's life. It’s the foundation of everything we do for our rescues.

Anyone know the feeling of walking into the barn and seeing your horse clearly in pain? That was us last night. 😰

We were bringing horses in for their evening grain and when KitKat didn't come right up to me at the gate, I knew something was immediately wrong. I called to him as I was walking up to him and he began to three-legged hop over to me, then with a very big sigh, held his leg out to show me where he hurt. 🥹🥰 Have I told you I love this horse?

After picking his hoof and taking his temperature, the vet and I made the call to have them up for an emergency visit.
About 5 minutes into the exam, she pulled out a hoof tester and that's when he went through the roof in pain. The answer was clear and I sighed in absolute relief! It was a hoof abscess, the diagnosis most would want after seeing a horse in that much pain.

Abscesses are infections that brew from bacteria getting stuck in little crevices of the hoof (or body). This wrap helps draw the infection out, which will provide immediate relief once it "blows". With the wet and dry weather going back and forth, it can be very common this time of year for horses to attract these ailments. With proper care they are 100% treatable and the horse can move on quickly and soundly.

Needless to say, he gets a couple days of stall rest, or at least until it blows. Hopefully our wonderful farrier can speed up that process for him tomorrow! ❤️

To be continued!

On today's episode of "Why you actually SHOULD get a thoroughbred", falling trees and forest mulchers don't phase them. 🚜👷‍♂️

While we did stall them right after this video to keep them safe from flying debris, it was amusing to see that they couldn't care less about what was going on around them. 😂

In other news, Project Paddock has officially commenced! We're clearing untouched land for more space. Which means, you guessed it, more rescue potential. ❤️🐎

Happy Thursday, folks!
