An eventful week at the rescue:

We took KitKat and Scully into the vet, and found some answers!

1️⃣ Despite KitKat's back fracture being fully healed, he still was showing intermittent lameness, so we had him further evaluated, and found our answer. His hock joint is fusing together (poor guy) causing a lot of pain, so we started injections to make him more comfortable. Three days later, he is feeling MUCH better!

2️⃣ Scully was uneventful- he was given a full clean bill of health and is cleared to go into his training in August!

3️⃣ Now for the unplanned vet call- CLIFFORD.

I went out to do chores and found the worst laceration I've ever seen in my time looking after horses thus far. (Picture at the end of the video so the squeamish can click out before.) We still haven't figured out how he could have possibly done this, but he is all stitched up and is resting for two weeks while it heals. We are monitoring him for infection and keeping a very close eye so he doesn't get any further complications.

So with that said, we've been busy, and apologize for the silence. More updates to come next week! Happy Sunday, friends! ❤️❤️❤️

Best birthday trade-off ever.

The face was a bonus. The soft eye is everything.

Scullyism took this trend and turned it into som**hing much more. He knows he's okay. 🤍🐎

Every horse rescue has a sheriff, and for the last 16 years, it was our cat, Wiley.

He came to me in 2010 at six weeks old from a m**h house, riddled with fleas, ringworm, underweight, ear mites, you name it, he probably had it. Twenty dollars was his price for their dr*g money, and boy was it the best $20 I have ever spent.

Summing up 16 years in one caption is impossible, but here are a few things that make him stand out:

-Wiley survived a week in coyote territory with a fresh neuter incision after sneaking out the front door at six months old.

-He used to burrow under the sheets and sleep in the crook of my knee as a kitten.

-If there was a cat that could level up to the intelligence of Albert Einstein, it would be him. He was one of the smartest animals I ever had the pleasure of knowing.

-He was an absolute savage and never let predators intimidate him. Once again, he had found a way to slip out the door, and came home with bite wounds around his neck. I wish I had had a GoPro on him to witness what had actually taken place, but he made it out alive and never missed a beat.

-Every human baby in his life was also his baby. He slept where they slept. He was patient, loving, and made sure that Mom (me) always had the late night moral support while being up at all hours of the night.

-The loyalty this cat had was som**hing beyond comprehension. He loved like a dog while being in a cat's body.

-He was VOCAL. You could have full on conversations with him and he would reply appropriately every time. Each little sound will be missed beyond measure.

-Speaking of vocal, his purr was as loud as a motor. You could hear him purring from the opposite floor of the house. I still hear it as I write this.

Wiley has been with me for my entire adult life, and losing him is honestly devastating. There was no one quite like him, and I will be forever grateful that I was brave enough to exchange that $20 for one of my soulmates. Sweet dreams, Wi. Thank you for this journey together, and thank you for everything. We will take it from here. 🐾🤍🕯️

All my love,
Kirby

His mouth tells the story he can't. This is why we let every horse set the pace for their own recovery. ❤️‍🩹

The light coming back into his eyes at the end…

Wait till you see the final number.

Wait until you see how his face looks at the end. ❤️❤️‍🩹
