In recognition of National Pet Obesity Awareness Day, we thought you should know what those treats do to your pets. Always check the back of the bag of your treats to see how many kcal’s it has because 1 treat might be like feeding an entire hamburger!!!

🚨 We see a lot of dog fight wounds in the ER, and many of them could be prevented with more awareness and caution.

One of the biggest offenders? 👉 Dog parks.
They may seem like a great place for dogs to socialize, but not all dogs want to play—or know how to interact—especially with strangers. The mindset that “all dogs love other dogs” is one we really need to rethink.

As pets have become more and more a part of our families (which is wonderful!), we sometimes forget: they’re still animals.
They don’t think, feel, or communicate the way we do—but they do have boundaries just like we do.

⚠️ A few key reminders to help prevent dog fights:
Don’t assume all dogs want to play.
Always ask before approaching someone else’s dog.
Learn to read canine body language—tension, tail position, and posture matter.
Be extra cautious in off-leash environments.
Respect your own dog’s limits. Not every dog is a “dog park dog.”

Let’s work together to keep our pets safe, healthy, and happy. 🐾❤️

Today is and this year's theme is "Act Now: You, Me Community,” marking the first time in its 19-year history that the theme does not include the word "rabies," showing how well-established this movement has become. Whether you are an individual, part of an organization, or a decision-maker, the time to act is today. Here are some key takeaways from our "Rabies in the U.S." infographic.
🔵 In 2023, rabid animals in the U.S. totaled 3,760 - an increase of 5.1% from 3,579 in 2022.
🦇 Bats were the most frequently reported rabid animal in the U.S. in 2023. Over 1/3 of animal rabies cases in the U.S. in 2023 were bats.
0️⃣ Human cases of rabies in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in 2023.

Remember, the best way to protect your animals from this deadly disease is through vaccination and to keep them away from wildlife that can spread the disease. Learn more at avma.org/Rabies.

Last week our friend Alaska had his teeth cleaned. This week it was his sister Darla’s turn. While Alaska waited for his sister to be discharged he hung out with Gnocchi and did some people-watching from the window.

Sweet little Alaska checked in for a dental cleaning this morning. He agreed to weigh himself in exchange for belly scratches from Dr. Hamilton. We think that’s a pretty fair trade!

Gnocchi, our clinic kitty, tried his hand at being a Bathroom Attendant this morning. He quickly discovered this is not his calling in life- lacking thumbs proved rather challenging when offering hand towels and dabs of perfume. Oh well, he’ll find something around here to occupy his time.

(Like a 3 hour snooze in one of the exam rooms.)
